One just arrived on my doorstep and is charging now. New toys are fun – upcoming reviews are even more so.

Would you like to get an HTC Hermes / i-mate JasJam for free (with an $80AU/month service plan)? Jenneth shows how Australians can. She also mentioned that the JasJam will sell for $1299 Australian – $200AU less than the Dopod evidently sells for…ouch!
It would appear that the JasJar is no longer the most expensive WM5 PDA Phone.
I started Gear Diary on September 30, 2006, and my goal was that this not be an easily labeled site. We all have gear that we use daily – some of it electronic and some of it organic. I think it is fascinating to explore the equipment that makes our lives easier, more entertaining, more productive, and more manageable. My hope is that Gear Diary visitors will find this site to be a comfortable and friendly place to discuss interesting topics – and not only those that are tech related, as well as a location to discover various types of gear – whatever that term may end up implying – that they never knew existed. My specialty is in-depth reviews written in a layman’s terms, because everyone can understand technology, sometimes it just takes a little translating. +Judie Stanford
Yes $1299 is a pretty good price for the Hermes over here. I have to say I never would have thought the best price would be from Telstra!! I am waiting to see if the version that comes out on 3 (another carrier of ours) is cheaper. They are typically cheaper than the other carriers for phones. Just hoping I can afford one when they finally arrive! I want to Windows Mobile back so bad, UIQ3.0 is just not the same.

And BTW, the Q looks pretty nice No WiFi or 3G though

I agree about the lack of Wi-Fi being an issue. I was originally lusting after one of these when they first came out, but with no Wi-Fi, and because I’m currently tied to Cingular (company plan), the Q was not an option.
I’m curious to see which you prefer; the smartphone Q, or the PPC PE Dopod!

mcsouth, I already know that I prefer a Pocket PC Phone to a smartphone if it is going to also be my full-time PDA; I need stylus interaction with a full OS and all the Office goodies.
It’s not that I don’t like Smartphone, it’s just that I see it more as a part-time PDA / full-time phone solution. For instance, I would carry a Smartphone all the time in conjunction with something heavier that I might leave at home when traveling lightly – say a cPC or a JasJar. But that’s just me, and we know that I can be a bit odd. It goes back to that Geeks that carry everything whether or not they need it syndrome. Ha ha!
I agree that a lack of WiFi would be an issue, but I do like the hardware more than I thought I would.
I agree with the preferring a Pocket PC phone to a smartphone! I need POWER, as well as a largish screen. Minimal stylus use is good, but I like to have that option for times when I want to write a handwritten note, play Bejeweled or even select links on a Web page by just tapping on it rather than having to navigate to it using the D-Pad. Plus there’s all the awesome programs available for the Pocket PC that are either cut-down for Smartphone or not available at all – such as Today plug-ins!
The Samsung i320 is the first time that I’ve thought about “switching” though – such a sexy bit of hardware!
