Apologies to Christopher Spera, but he used such a great title for his new Sprint Palm 700wx review at PocketNow that I just had to recycle it!
According to him, ”The Sprint powered Palm 700wx is the 700w remade. The 700wx has three distinct improvements over the 700w: 64MB instead of just 32MB, The ability to use the device as an EV-DO modem AKU2.x, and the new Communications Manager comes preinstalled.”

Chris goes on to say, “Over the past 4 weeks or so, the Sprint Powered Palm 700wx has been my only link to the outside world. I’ve been using it as my main Internet connection while I am staying with friends and relocating from Nashville to Chicago. This has given me a unique opportunity to evaluate Sprint’s EV-DO implementation, its signal strength, and performance as a cellular carrier and potential ISP. I can sum up my experience and opinion in two words: NOT impressed.”
Uh oh!
Is anyone else using Sprint’s 700wx? Have you noticed a signal strength problem?

Thanks for linking, Judie, I really appreciate it.
The Treo 700w/x is a great device; but the service on Sprint was really VERY disappointing. In fact, it was a huge let down. Cingular’s signal has better penetration, and GSM signals are inheirently weak indoors.

oh, and BTW, I don’t think this is a device issue. I think its on Sprint’s end…

That really concerns me, because my main voice plan is through Sprint.

Oh dear. It was good to read an unbiased view
Luckily, I am in the UK and not on sprint, so it’s one device I wont be looking in to.

I really wonder how Sprint’s EV-DO stacks up against Verizon’s. Real world testing mind you, not surveys and such. I support reps at work that use Verizon’s EV-DO cards and connecting to them for remote support is similar to dial-up. Probably 50% of the users are getting below dial-up connections, while 30% get closer to DSL speeds (major cities, outdoor). The remaining 20%? They can’t connect at all. -_-

On the flip side, if you’re not wedded to Windows Mobile, the 700p (Sprint) or even the new 680 look like good devices. The new Palm 680 (http://www.brighthand.com/default.asp?newsID=12534) also looks like a good option, although I haven’t found which carrier will offer them here in the U.S. My guess is Cingular, since they haven’t had a new Palm SmartPhone since the 650, and there have been rumors of a new Cingular Palm SmartPhone for a while. But who the heck knows?

I am tempted to buy the Palm OS version of whatever Treo happens to be the newest Sprint branded…I need to get a Palm device for testing purposes.
