LIVEdigitally Reviews the Shure E500PTH Headphones and Says…

Jeremy at LIVEdigitally has just completed a review of the higher end Shure E500PTH in-ear headphones. I know that people can be very choosy and loyal when it comes to in-ear headphones, and quite a few love their Shures…

I can’t believe that I have never even tried a pair!

After looking at Jeremy’s review, I admit that I am now tempted.

Like most everyone that enjoys using noise cancelling in-ear headphones, my one complaint has been that they must be pulled out when conversing with others so that (a.) you don’t yell like an idiot (because you can’t hear how loud you are) and (b.) you can hear their replies.

Evidently the E500PTH solves this problem.

Jeremy says in the review, “Their noise-cancelling capabilities are tremendous, but as I said above, taking out and shoving in little rubber buds in your ear every time the person next to you wants to share some little detail of their life and why they love their home town can get, well, annoying.  And I have a hunch quite a few of Shure’s customers shared that sentiment with the company, since the E500’s specifically address that situation.”

Jeremy says, “Shure added a microphone and a little on/off switch to the headphones.  When switched “on” (which does require a single AAA battery), the E500’s effectively mute the incoming audio source, and amplify the microphone.  This translates to: when you turn them on, you can hear the outside world again.”

Although pricey, the Shure’s look pretty slick. I especially like that there is also an option to purchase their Push-To-Hear (PTH) componant for those that want to add the technology to their present favorite headset.

I started Gear Diary on September 30, 2006, and my goal was that this not be an easily labeled site. We all have gear that we use daily – some of it electronic and some of it organic. I think it is fascinating to explore the equipment that makes our lives easier, more entertaining, more productive, and more manageable. My hope is that Gear Diary visitors will find this site to be a comfortable and friendly place to discuss interesting topics – and not only those that are tech related, as well as a location to discover various types of gear – whatever that term may end up implying – that they never knew existed. My specialty is in-depth reviews written in a layman’s terms, because everyone can understand technology, sometimes it just takes a little translating. +Judie Stanford
