The fact is, you may very well need at least 6 one second shots to render a single attacker harmless. The commercial shows this being accomplished at 20 feet with just one shot. This is very un-realistic. They even show a scenario where two attackers of hefty size were brought to the ground with a one second shot each, which is pretty un-relistic, to say the least. The price of course is a bit much, as it is never revealed on the air. Needless to say, had they advertised the nearly 250 dollar price tag (not including tax or delivery) most would simply reach for the remote. The difference between people and bears, as you pointed out, is that people can be hyped up on drugs et cetera while bears are effectively stopped. At least within their ability to stop a several hundred pound body. The public thinks OC / 'Mace' / pepper spray is a 'one squirt solution' to an assault attempt. It just isn't so. The video is plain misleading. OC does not make you fall to your feet in a whimpering surrender. An intent attacker can still advance and complete an attack. They may be teary eyed or temporarily blinded but they can still swing, grapple, hit, etc. Someone hyped-up on drugs or alcohol may seem unaffected from OC. This device may be a better used as an impact weapon. I quit carring OC when a Virginia State Trooper was thrown onto the interstate by a subject who he'd just sprayed. And, the sprayer -always- should expect to get hit by the OC themselves. If you plan to use this stuff be ready to receive some of the spray yourself and know what to do when it happens.
