Kerry Woo, AKA WonderDawg, has written an excellent article about people that are camping out at various stores in Nashville in the “cold & wet” weather to get the brand new $600 Playstation 3…or in some cases nothing more than a raincheck!

Kerry made the rounds of quite a few local stores, finally saying that WalMart was one of the more desirable places to camp, because they have “outside electrical outlets, security, restrooms, groceries and camping supplies available. All at low, low prices too! Also a pharmacy for treatment of excess car exhaust.”

After reading his hilarious recount of the various stores visited, be sure to check out his Flickr Photo Documentary. It’s good stuff and a fun read!

This is the kind of thing that I might have done if I was still 20-something, and had the cash – but that is currently a strikeout on both accounts.
Being married with kids and a house kind of kills this type of spontaneity, but not necessarily the desire for gadgets like this. It’s a good thing that I wasn’t really planning on shelling out the bucks for a PS3, since our car decided to “throw up” this morning, and it looks like the repair bill will be about…..$500-800.
Let’s see, a PS3 or fix the car?
Thank goodness I already have the money set aside for a Wii (my son has had Twilight Princess on reserve for over a year now, so the Wii was sort of a foregone conclusion in our household – strangely enough, I am looking forward to that).

Costco sold the PS3 online at 10:45am… or so..
The event recounted to me by my friend…
Lam: while i was on the phone talking to my mommy….
trying to get account information..
cause she had a meeting ALL this morning!!
and i’m mourning.
so chima calls me and says “it’s ON!”
so i run in..
costco site is bombardeed.
chima is still stuck on “loading”
well, after he hit “add to shopping cart”
so i got back and check on costco and BAMMO “SOLD OUT”
w/in like..seconds!
Lam: oh well, guess it just wasn’t meant to be…
shame.

Kerry, I’m not much of a gamer, so unless Steve & Sarah decide that they ‘need’ a PS3, we probably won’t get one.
Sarah has the PS2 in her room, Steve has an X-Box in our office…I really don’t want the PS3 in our bedroom!
So after all of your staking out of the camp outs, did you not get one for yourself?

Judie, being Asian, I NEVER pay full price… “I NO PEY… TOO MUCH…” I prefer to perpetuate the Asian stereotype with smartphones, PDAs, cameras, iMacs, DirecTV AND woodworking tools and Legos.
Not a gamer… Sim City is about as close as I get !

Kerry, you are only perpetuating the “smart shopper” stereotype!
Although you did make me blow diet coke out of my nose when I read what you wrote (“I NO PEY… TOO MUCH…”)!!!

Do people really want a PS3 or do they want to make a quick buck by selling it on Ebay to the highest bidder. I’m thinking most of those who camped out just did so to turn around and sell it on ebay for big profit.
