Gear Diary contributor and Palm Is Life administrator Larry Liaw just sent me a link to the Palm Is Life iPod Shuffle 2 Unboxing.
Would it be possible for this thing to be any littler or any cuter?
No…I don’t think so.
See the full unboxing here.

I have had a fascination with all types of gadgets and gizmos since I was a child, beginning with the toy robot that my grandmother gave my brother - and which I promptly "relieved him of" in 1973. I have long been captivated by devices that did anything interesting or served a unique purpose - however silly.
My first computer was a TRaSh-80, and since then I have worked my way through an alarming number of desktops, laptops and handheld devices.
I have been writing online consumer device reviews since 1999, and I've greatly enjoyed having a legitimate reason to try out almost every doo-dad that catches my fancy. I can't tell you how everything works - but I am known for using a product until I have a full understanding of what it does, what its limitations are, and if it excels in any given area...or not.

One of the things I liked on the old shuffle was the built in USB connector, so you didn’t have to carry another dock to charge and sync it, and you could use it as a memory stick as well… I know it adds bulk, and the whole idea of the shuffle 2 is that it’s small, but another proprietary connector? Couldn’t they have at least used a mini-usb jack? Looks like another piece of plastic and toxins to dump in the landfill in two years time when you loose the dock and Apple want to charge you far too much for a new one!
*rant over*
T39, I totally agree about using a miniUSB, Apple dropped the ball there…but c’mon…isn’t the itty-bitty cradle cute.
As far as the plastic box - I bet people find plenty of uses for those and few will end up in landfills – hopefully not too many cradles will, either.
They could have used the same type of cradle but with a mini USB port. Would have been a much better idea, although considering the size it simply may not have been possible.
Okay, the gauntlet has been thrown down: how could it be cuter?
o) If it was covered in purple fur, like Sully in Monsters, Inc.
o) If it was pink
o) If it has a pokemon character on it (but only a cute one)
o) If it had some cute anime character on it
Of course, for me, I’m more like Susan Sarandon in Bull Durham; I’m not much into cute. I tend to go with black, or stainless steel, or some such. Heck, I got an O2 XDA Exec version of the HTC Universal partly because the durn thing is black. My gear bag is black. My Tapwave Zodiac is black. (On the other hand, my favorite Swiss Army Knife is red; a foolish consistency is the hobgobin of little minds!)

“I tend to go with black, or stainless steel, or some such.”
So are you saying that this miniscule chunk of stainless doesn’t appeal?
I don’t need yet-another-separate-on-function-gizmo. You know me, Judie; I’m looking to cut down on my number of gizmos, not increase them!
And it may be stainless steel, but it’s still cute. I don’t really do cute. (I don’t do manly real well, either; I’m kind of a mix.)
