I get emails throughout the day from various PR agents. Many of them would like me to post a blurb about a product that they are hyping, or they would like to send a review unit so that I can experience what all the hype is about. Most of the time I am happy to oblige one way or the other, but sometimes I’ll just “file” the mail away.
This particular email however, was a bit out of the ordinary…
Hi Judie,
Move over MySpace…Social networking has taken a risqué turn: Redlightcenter.com is a virtual world where users can create their own avatar (a cartoon-like character) and fulfill fantasies they may not experience in real life. Through their alter-egos, people can experience dating, dancing, and other intimate activities as found in the Red Light District.
Would you be interested in an interview with the founder of the site, Ray Schwartz?
Thanks,

Okay…I can only imagine how that interview would go. And…how did I get on this PR list?!

Yah…I agree. I bet it will be a huge money maker, though.

I think it would be accurate to tell ‘em your readers aren’t interested.

I can see this being a very big success. All those people with weird fetishes can act them out safely in the comfort of their own home without the risk of being arrested, humiliated or attacked.
In all seriousness there are many forms of technology that have been adopted early by the porn/sex industry. It’s probably no great coincidence that the Adult Video Entertainment event is on in Vegas each year at the same time as CES!

Alison, once when Julie and I were taking a cab to CES from our hotel, the cabbie asked us if we were headed to the Adult Video convention. We were all geeked out with our CES press bags - I think I even had on my SCOTTeVEST, and it was like…”uh, are we dressed for that?”
I’m sure it is a wild show - I’ve caught bits of it on TV after the fact.

”uh, are we dressed for that?”
Well, like I said, there are some very strange fetishes out there. Maybe there’s a Scott EVest wearer fetishist group too!!!

We should ask Scott!
But I am sure you are right.
