Would you just look at the new Flybook VM? Seeing this new model makes me happy I never sprang for the old…and believe me, I was tempted.
The Flybook VM looks like a regular old laptop, albeit a stylish one, until you see it open…
It’s a laptop, with a height adjustable monitor!
This is completely genius…
I want one…so I guess I’ll need to sell something.
They are accepting pre-orders at GeekStuff4U starting at $2878.63, and they’ll be shipping on December 20, 2006. More pictures can be seen on the GeekStuff4U page or on the Japanese Flybook site.
I started Gear Diary on September 30, 2006, and my goal was that this not be an easily labeled site. We all have gear that we use daily – some of it electronic and some of it organic. I think it is fascinating to explore the equipment that makes our lives easier, more entertaining, more productive, and more manageable. My hope is that Gear Diary visitors will find this site to be a comfortable and friendly place to discuss interesting topics – and not only those that are tech related, as well as a location to discover various types of gear – whatever that term may end up implying – that they never knew existed. My specialty is in-depth reviews written in a layman’s terms, because everyone can understand technology, sometimes it just takes a little translating. +Judie Stanford
It looks pretty cool, but doesn’t it kind of seem like a one-trick pony? I mean, a laptop is so portable anyway, if you need to move the screen can’t you just move the laptop?

Beautifull device, but, is it really worth $3000? At least the other FlyBooks had GSM/GPRS/UMTS wireless built in and they were ultra small Tablets, this one is “just” a beautifull Notebook…

$3,000 is a lot of money…I sure wish that I could use one for a little while and decide whether it is “worth it” or not. The lack of GSM/GPRS/UMTS wireless is a bummer, I agree.
As far as moving the screen – this one looks like it would be more ergonomic (looking across at the screen instead of down at the screen), and it is also supposed to be better for use in cramped quarters – like on a plane.
Until I actually see one (maybe at CES), I can’t say whether it would or wouldn’t be as great as I think it might be…but in the meantime, if price were no object, I like it.
