December 13th is the day that Ilium Software’s eWallet 5.0 drops – and this is an update that has been worth the wait!
For those of you that aren’t familiar with it or didn’t get to try the Beta, here’s a little info:
eWallet is basically a centralized lockbox which uses 256bit RC4 encryption to securely store passwords, credit card numbers, software serial numbers, health information, vehicle information, account numbers, serial numbers of home electronics – just about any possible kind of information you might need to keep - in an easy to access, yet completely secure file on your Pocket PC, Palm device, Windows PC, or WM5 Smartphone.

In this version, the improvements include:
- Synchronize with as many wallets with as many PCs and devices as you want
- Synchronize with servers and other PCs on a network
- Synchronize to other folders on the same PC for automated backups
- Synchronize to removable storage devices (USB, removable hard drives, etc.)
- Synchronize with remote locations via FTP
- Built-in online backup/viewing capability through FilesAnywhere sync
- Brand new sync setup interface
- Full support for Vista and Mobile Device Center
- All new icon set
- Four self-installing icon packs
- eWallet Companion step-by-step help tool
- Graphics, icons, and sounds stored in My Documents now making it easier to customize
- “No Password Needed” wallet option
Those that need information about upgrading should look here.
As I have mentioned before, I’ve been using eWallet for years. It is one of the first programs that gets loaded on every device or computer I own, and I would truly be lost without it. Give it a try!

Great piece of software. I’ve just spent an hour entering everything, now to wait for someone to steal my identity…

That’s the point…now you should be protected if you leave your PDA somewhere, or if your computer gets stolen. But you’ll have your numbers in one handy place when you need them, accessible only by you. This beats carrying a list of numbers on a piece of paper or in an unsecured PDA memo file. :0)

This is a great app. I find it indispensible. When I carried a Biblical-sized paper planner I used to keep account numbers in ‘Contacts’ written backwards. No crook would ever figure that out, huh? Like the key under the doormat and jewelry in the sock drawer.
