I’ve been wading through tons of emails asking for meetings with various companies while I’ll be at CES, and although quite a few of the devices I’ll see are under embargo until during CES, there is one I thought I would mention now – The Tornado, by Data Drive Thru.
The Tornado is a file transfer tool to swap files from one computer to another. Let’s face it, one of the most tedious things about getting a new laptop or desktop is all of the file transferring that must occur to get the new computer up to speed.
Well, The Tornado takes care of all that. According to the site, “Once connected to each PC, The Tornado™ automatically displays the entire contents of each PC enabling the user to quickly drag-n-drop their files and file folders from one machine to the other. Operating at USB 2.0 speeds, The Tornado™ moves files 600 % faster than standard flash memory-based storage media. The Tornado™ is pocket-sized and has retractable cables allowing it to be easily carried anywhere.”
I am supposed to meet with an exec and pick up a review sample while I’m at CES…too bad I didn’t have one when I got my Toshiba! I suspect that it will come in handy with my cPC, however.

I’ll give a shout-out to the Data Drive Thru Tornado right now, which I had picked up at CES; it made transferring files from one laptop to the other a cinch! [...]

You could just use a cat 5e crossover cable and set up a simple “network” and would have the same product that’s cheaper, 2x the speed (assuming both PCs support Gigabit Ethernet), and much less overhead than USB.

I ordered one the day I saw this post. It arrived quickly, and does exactly what it says it will do.
I just moved a very large folder from the PC to the laptop. Now, if it could only sync the files, too!

The USB Transfer Cable that comes with the Samsung Q1 (and I believe can be bought seperately) does the same thing as this; it was ultra-handy when I was setting up the UMPC last weekend.
