It would appear that the HTC Athena we have been talking about for the past couple of weeks is actually going to happen. The bad news is it may have a price tag of $1700.
Yeah.
I sure hope that is a typo, or just a bad guess.
Earlier today, Chris at Mobility Site posted about the 2007 HTC roadmap with device codenames to include “Love, Vox, Kaiser, Wings, Cavalier, Elf, and something else they couldn’t identify, but looks like a redone HTC Star Trek. (or maybe its called unknown…hehe)”
Here’s the latest Athena information from Chris’ site:

Read about the rest of the devices here.
There’s also a mention of another flagship device, the Omni.
Vaht iz thizz?

US$1700!!! Thats just insane!! How can it possibly cost that much. I honestly can’t see it taking off at that price. Unbelievable specs, coupled with an unbelievable price
What I don’t understand is how it can be that expensive. I mean take the HTC Universal, update the GSM/3G radio, drop the keyboard for an external one, throw in one of the latest (and tiny) GPS chips, and add a big SD card and you ALMOST have the Athena. Yes it is all rolled into a nice package and has a bigger screen, but still!!!

I know…
I was really hoping for something around $700 – $800 max.

It’s definatelly $1000 too much for my taste.
But I’m anyway more interested in the Omni and the Kaiser, especially if they will be smaller/thinner than their predecessors (Universal and Hermes)
