I was in a class with mostly girls and the IBM Selectric had just been out a few years. The school district could only buy a few Selectrics a year and I was typing on a manual Underwood sitting next to a girl typing on a new Selectric. What was unfair - we both had to pass a 65 WPM typing test to get an "A"! Anyway, at the time I thought my Mom wanted me to be a secretary when she made me sign up for that typing class but turns she must have been a visionary to know I would need typing skills in my digital future.
