Another Take on the Palm 750v

Posted on 01 January 2007 by

No sooner had Mitchell posted his review of the Palm 750v, then Chris posted his on SlashPhone. Therefore, I officially declare January 1, 2007 to be Palm 750v Day. ;-)

In all seriousness, I always enjoy reading Chris’ daily blurbs on SlashGear and the other Aradius sites, but this is the first full review of his that I recall reading, and I would like to see more!

Chris has a very easy-going and humorous style, and I especially like that he wrote the review from the perspective of someone that has never owned a Treo.

slashphone reviews the palm 750v

About having never owned a Treo or BlackBerry previously, he says, “Whether that makes me the ideal person to test the new Treo 750v, currently available in the UK from operator Vodafone, or the most unsuitable person I shall leave up to the whims of fanboys and review addicts.  There are numerous in-depth reviews of the Windows Mobile 5.0 OS that I don’t intend to rival; instead, this is my Coming of Age in a world of push email and unlimited high-speed cellular data.”

Chris goes on to cover everything from his feelings on setting up and using push mail, to getting used to the Treo’s tight keyboard, to lamenting the lack of a  £-sign on this UK model. I’ll leave him to tell you his conclusions, but I would like to put in a request for more reviews from Chris – he does a great job! :-)

I started Gear Diary on September 30, 2006, and my goal was that this not be an easily labeled site. We all have gear that we use daily – some of it electronic and some of it organic. I think it is fascinating to explore the equipment that makes our lives easier, more entertaining, more productive, and more manageable. My hope is that Gear Diary visitors will find this site to be a comfortable and friendly place to discuss interesting topics – and not only those that are tech related, as well as a location to discover various types of gear – whatever that term may end up implying – that they never knew existed. My specialty is in-depth reviews written in a layman’s terms, because everyone can understand technology, sometimes it just takes a little translating. +Judie Stanford

I had the Treo 700w, which is Verizons WM 5 version, for about a day. I hated it. Took it back the next day. It wasn’t just one thing, it was a bunch of little things. This was a while ago so I won’t pretend to have an objective point of view here. I recall there were just lots of little things that I thought were implemented badly. Palm should stay out of Windows Mobile, they don’t do it right.

    Disclaimer:
The above is purely an emotional reaction which is all that remains in my memory. I take no responsibility for its accuracy.
