Smudges will be an issue, but they are an issue for my black iPod as well. I used one of the clear plastic cases and don’t worry anymore. It’s not as small and thin as it was before, but it’s protected.

I wouldn't mind a slightly bigger screen, but Apple has such a good reputation for screen display, it might be fine. I worry about the smudge factor, too, especially with the stylus specifically designed out, but it has bluetooth, and I love my Cardo headset anyway, so that might not be an issue.
