US$599 is an outrageous amount to pay when you are locked in for 2 years. I too have never had a phone for two years, and the iPhone with its lack of expandability really kills its potential to be a phone that will last years. Ditto on your point about the keyboard. Yes they showed an interesting looking onscreen thumboard, but it can't possibly replace proper hardware thumboard. My Treo 750v has a fantastic thumboard, and it would take a lot of other features to make be think of dropping it. I completely agree about the price.
