It is so cold, that if the current temperature trend and falling snow don’t let up, I’ll be at the ranch all day tomorrow “busting ice.”
What is “busting ice”, you might ask?
Well, just as the name implies – it is me and a shovel, clearing the ice from the ranch troughs so that the cattle and goats can get to the water which has been covered by the ice. In a nutshell, busting ice involves dressing like a Yeti and freezing my butt off.
It has been ten years since I had to do this…that’s how rare this type of freeze is here.

I’ll get pictures if things turn out as I suspect they will…they should be fun and good for a laugh.
How is the weather in your neck of the woods?

Hi Judie! Here in England (Olde England not New England!) we have had a very mild winter – I live just on the southern edge of Beatrix Potter country – no frost at all so far and in the last few weeks a lot of rain and now some heavy winds on the way. I am married to a farmer’s daughter so I know about keeping troughs clear of ice – keep warm!! – regards from flub

Well here is sunny southern california (think disneyland) its in the 30’s!!! We had snow at the beginning of the week in some cities and that wasn’t even in the mountains (though they definately had snow!). Extremely rare to be this cold here.
For that matter extremely rare to get snow here.
I actually had to chip ice off of my car to drive… which i don’t know how to do, being a southern california girl.
But its all good i’m enjoying it so far as long as its safe.

Damn its cold!! Its 6F here in Chicagoland right now. I suspect it will be cold er come tomorrow morning. The yankee in me is used to it, but the redneck in me is busy trying to figure out where I can layer the duct tape to keep warm…
I’m getting too old for this crap.

-20ish Celsius. Much colder than it’s been in recent years in the Canadian Rockies. I even had to buy a pair of boots this year! Kylie (my dog) loves that the snow is sticking this year.

It keeps snowing in Seattle! It’s unnatural! (It’s as if we live next to the Canadian border.) Where’s our normally programmed winter weather of endless overcast and rainy days?
