To do it right, one needs to put primer on the plastic body, paint a few coats, then clear coat it. I have the DEI responder auto security system with remote start and the fancy remotes come with a painted finish ( http://www.viper.com/Images/Products/5900_large.gif ). After a few years, the finish on the body of my remote is standing up better than the screen which has taken a few nicks and scratches.
