The iPhone – Not All It’s Hyped Up to Be

Posted on 22 January 2007 by

Mike Elgan over at ComputerWorld has published an excellent article explaining the reasons he believes the iPhone will disappoint a lot of people when it hits the stores in the middle of this year. Steve Jobs’ keynote was definitely exciting, but as Mike suggests did Apple make a mistake announcing the iPhone so early, and in turn creating such high expectations?

sad iphone

I agree that it probably dampened the excitement of the Apple TV, but somehow I doubt that iPod sales are going to take much of a hit considering how popular they are. The price of the iPhone ($599 and $499 for 8 and 4GB) and its exclusivity to Cingular (AT&T ?) upon release will ensure that iPod’s continue to fly off the shelves.

At its outrageous price and such a restrictive OS I think it should, but with the Apple “i” brand behind it it has a chance.
