Mike Elgan over at ComputerWorld has published an excellent article explaining the reasons he believes the iPhone will disappoint a lot of people when it hits the stores in the middle of this year. Steve Jobs’ keynote was definitely exciting, but as Mike suggests did Apple make a mistake announcing the iPhone so early, and in turn creating such high expectations?
I agree that it probably dampened the excitement of the Apple TV, but somehow I doubt that iPod sales are going to take much of a hit considering how popular they are. The price of the iPhone ($599 and $499 for 8 and 4GB) and its exclusivity to Cingular (AT&T ?) upon release will ensure that iPod’s continue to fly off the shelves.
