Vincent at MYiPhone posts that CNBC analyst Jim Cramer is saying Cingular/ATT “will sidestep subsidization of the Apple iPhone by giving away lengthy service contracts,” and that “he believes the strategy will help drive new subscribers to the Cingular while maintaining requests from Apple not to discount the cost of the $499 and $599 iPhones.”

Would you be tempted to buy an Apple iPhone with a two-year contract if you got free service for 18 months? I’ve gotta admit it sounds mighty tempting to me; I voted yes. You can take the poll, here.
It will be interesting to see if Rogers in Canada follows suit with any sweet deals…

I have six more months before I care or don’t care about the iPhone, but what I do care about right now is JUDIE’S BACK! Yeah, I was one of those who couldn’t get to her site or RSS or anything till today. I don’t know if geography has anything to do with it, or what. I read your explanation and heard what was going on, but I’m just glad the drought is over. I can live without a newspaper, the evening news, and even SOME gadgets, but getting a parser error message everyday instead of JUDIE is a real drag. Welcome back. “Here’s lookin’ at you, kid….”

“Launch date and pricing for Canada are not yet available”
Being a Rogers user, I would guess “sometime after the apocalypse” and “if the initial layout doesn’t kill ‘em, the data pricing will.”
And, fortunately, I had to do without for only about eight hours or so.

Lucky you! I am still traumatized by the experience.

I hope I never have to deal with that ’cause I’m not sure what I can or will do.
I am also a Rogers user, but someone who absolutely HATES any kind of contract so if I hear “contract”, I won’t bite regardless of what incentives are there because there’s always some unexpected variable that forces me to break the contract and I pay for it. So, I voted NO.
Curious whether it will be called iPhone in Canada or just the Apple iPod Phone or whatever else with all the problems and trademark names all over the world.
Besides, there’s not enough in the iPhone to convince me anyway although I do agree it’s very cool and really hope that this will force all the players to get back to on their butts with innovating products again.
