Got a Song Stuck in Your Head?

Posted on 04 February 2007 by

Ever had that happen, where you can’t get a song out of your head, but you don’t quite know the words or don’t even know the name? I’ve found that listening to the song or at least reading the words helps get rid of this annoying affliction. If you can only hear the tune Google isn’t much help, but a new free service may just help you find and silence that background noise!

Midomi (currently in beta) utilizes a new type of audio recognition that analyses several parts of a recording (like pitch or content) to produce the most accurate results.

midomi is the ultimate music search tool because it is powered by your voice. Sing, hum, or whistle to instantly find your favorite music and connect with a community that shares your musical interests. Give it a try. It’s truly amazing!

While I am an AWFUL singer, it was able to correctly identify several songs that I either hummed or “sung” (although I wouldn’t call it singing :P ), which as they say is pretty amazing.

Along the same lines is Shazam. If you hear a song and like it, but don’t know what it’s called, then dial Shazam, hold up your phone, it listens to the song and then texts you with the name and title.

Here’s a link to the US one but there are Shazam links for loads of different countries there too: http://www.shazam.com/music/portal?l=en_US
