Chatting on Your Mobile Phone

Posted on 14 February 2007 by

No…I’m not talking about the kind that you do with your mouth, but instead the type that you do with your fingers! ;-)

Do you keep in touch with your friends via AIM, MSN Messenger, Google Talk, ICQ or jabber on your PC? Well, you can do the same thing from with IM+, an all in one chat client for Windows Mobile devices.

tjchan at JAMM has written a really great review on this program - his first, believe it or not.

He says, “I was just thinking the other day about how I could send instant messages on my Dell Axim x51v. The first program I tried was eBuddy, a web browser based, non-realtime messaging solution. The problem with a refresh based solution, however, is that there are times you don’t realize the chat log has become outdated while you are still typing your response. The second solution which I looked at was WebMessenger’s Mobile IM for PPC. The big gripe I had with them was the price tag – pay by month service…that was no good, either. Finally, I discovered Shape Services’ IM+….ahhhh….just right!”

Take a look at tjchan’s review and see if this might work on your WM device. :-)

I started Gear Diary on September 30, 2006, and my goal was that this not be an easily labeled site. We all have gear that we use daily – some of it electronic and some of it organic. I think it is fascinating to explore the equipment that makes our lives easier, more entertaining, more productive, and more manageable. My hope is that Gear Diary visitors will find this site to be a comfortable and friendly place to discuss interesting topics – and not only those that are tech related, as well as a location to discover various types of gear – whatever that term may end up implying – that they never knew existed. My specialty is in-depth reviews written in a layman’s terms, because everyone can understand technology, sometimes it just takes a little translating. +Judie Stanford

Wondering what the mobile charges are like for a service like that? Are they data on GPRS?

Yes, that’s exactly what they would be. You don’t get charged for each message, it’s the data.

If you have an unlimited data plan, like the ones that are popular in the US, then the only concern would be decreased battery life.
