Quite a comprehensive analysis you got there. Have been considering getting a similar device but my only aprehensions currently revolve around the key placement…I see you feel the same way!

I have a 750v and since we have iffy 3G implementation here in Manila I keep my device in GSM mode and only switch to 3G when I need the faster connection. I think this will do a lot to improve battery life… I imagine switching between GSM and UMTS and trying to maintain a signal aren’t really helping battery life. I get 1.5 to 2 days per charge [no push email].

Great review! It looks like the 750 is a pretty good Win Mobile Treo device but hopefully there will be a firmware update to address the problems with switching between UMTS and GPRS causing those dropped calls.

And I guess the 240×240 screen always make me think it’s a downgrade from the Palm OS Treos.

Thanks for the comment oops46. You’re right this is a huge problem; and as such, I stopped using the 750 until a fix is released.

Unfortunately, I’m not certain if this is a fix that Palm is responsible for, or if Cintular/ATT is responsible for. I have this feeling that they BOTH might need to be involved to resolve the issue, and if that’s the case, we’re going to be waiting for a while, I think…

I have posted messages before on the Treo W and WX about dropping calls and have gotten replies that Oh Nooooooooooo we never have had problems with those Treo’s dropping calls. Well, if one lives in fringe areas with a Treo, no matter what network, they WILL consistently drop calls.
Now, we have the Treo 750 with a MAJOR problem, dropping calls because it cannot switch between UMTS and GPRS. This is a MAJOR problem for Treo, one that has been spread around the Internet quickly and yet, they have NOT released an update for it. It makes no difference whether the screens are nice and so on but for a $499.00 phone not to do its primary function, making and receiving calls, is the rest worth a lot? Where is the quality control?
Palm is resting on it laurels once again and as much as do like the size, one handed operation, and handiness, there are no more Treo’s in this persons future
