The Vulcan FlipStart was an interesting concept when it was announced ages ago, but up until recently has been branded as vapourware due to its unceasing lack of appearance. But now it has a face, and even several reviews to its name!

The specs on this thing a pretty sweet with WiFi, Bluetooth and EVDO radios to keep to connected, QWERTY keyboard to keep those emails and IMs at bay, and an amazingly high resolution 1024×600 resolution on its petite 5.6″ display (which even includes a webcam!). Oddly it is powered by the so-last-generation Pentium-M ULV, but the P-M is no slouch, and should run circles around the Celeron-M and VIA C7-M chips that many other UMPC-sized devices are using. There is also the option of either Windows XP Tablet Edition or Vista Business Edition.

The only unfortunate thing I see is the price, a hefty $1999 which will put it out of reach for many people. The device is clearly aimed at the busy mobile professional, and for that market the price tag can be swallowed, but if you have the cash this one amazing device that packs almost your whole laptop into an incredibly small space.

Now what I’d like to know is how on earth Engadget got not one but two!! Checkout their photo gallery of the device here.
