The Digital Cube i-Station G43 – a UMPC Never Looked This Good

While the Samsung Q1 Ultra (Q1u?) is getting a fair amount of attention, Digital Cube has announced a competitor in the ever-expanding UMPC market with their i-Station G43, which they are calling the “World’s Smallest” UMPC. It doesn’t have the fastest processor, but it definitely has the size down-packed, made possible by the 4.3″ Display (same size as the PSP), but keeping with the 800×480 of most UMPCs. The usual wireless standards are in there (WiFi and Bluetooth), along with a choice of either a 30GB or 60GB HDD, and a rather unique thumb-touchpad on the side for mouse control if you get bored of just tapping what you want with the stylus.

The AMD Geode LX800/900 processor won’t exactly win any performance awards but it has certainly won some for power usage, which should help the G43 last a bit longer on what must be a very compact battery. Oddly there is no option of Windows Vista, only Windows XP or Linux which I’m sure won’t be a deal-breaker for most. Hopefully this baby won’t be as costly as other UMPCs, so we can finally see some prices in the realm of those that were announced when the UMPC revolution began!
