JAMMing on the MyVu Personal Media Viewer

Posted on 18 March 2007 by

Doug Goldring from Just Another Mobile Monday (JAMM) and The Small Picture has just posted an in-depth review of the MyVu Personal Media Viewer. Don’t let the cute little tyke in the picture below scare you, these glasses will do more than make you look like LeVar Burton in Star Trek: TNG; they project “a screen in front of your eyes which will simulate a big screen television, creating a considerably more comfortable viewing environment.”

Sounds intriguing, right? Well read on…

In his email to me Doug said, “This is a device which allows you to carry an entire big screen TV and digital audio system in the palm of your hand.  Pretty amazing stuff.  George Jetson has nothing on me.” Indeed!

According to Doug’s review, “Essentially, MyVu is a pair of glasses with earbud headphones and a viewscreen attached.  The MyVu plugs into your iPod video (any iPod video will work, however, the current version of the MyVu will not work with any other devices), and acts as an external viewscreen for your video content.”

If you wonder how those borg-like glasses feel when worn, Doug says they “were extremely light on my face.  Once they were on, you hardly noticed them.  I also really appreciated the fact that the earbuds hung from the stem of the glasses.  This significantly helped reduce the potential for tangled wires.  It also meant that the earbuds were always easily accessible if I had to pop them out for any reason.”

The part that sounds the most intriguing to me was this:

I wish there was a way that I could show you what you see when you view an image on the MyVu personal media viewer. I really cannot describe it, except to say that it is simply amazing, like something you might have read about in a science fiction novel. Just slip on the glasses and you enter your own private movie screening theater. Anytime. Anyplace.

Maybe it is worth it to look like Lt. Commander Geordi La Forge just a little bit. I think that this might be a picture of Doug…and he looks pretty happy, so I suspect that the experience might be worth any Star Trek or borg jokes made. ;-)

I started Gear Diary on September 30, 2006, and my goal was that this not be an easily labeled site. We all have gear that we use daily – some of it electronic and some of it organic. I think it is fascinating to explore the equipment that makes our lives easier, more entertaining, more productive, and more manageable. My hope is that Gear Diary visitors will find this site to be a comfortable and friendly place to discuss interesting topics – and not only those that are tech related, as well as a location to discover various types of gear – whatever that term may end up implying – that they never knew existed. My specialty is in-depth reviews written in a layman’s terms, because everyone can understand technology, sometimes it just takes a little translating. +Judie Stanford
