The gizmo itself is just a means of transferring the charge from the AA batteries to your phone.
As for this working well... depends on what you need!  I&#039;d never use these on a daily basis, because yes, it&#039;ll chew through AA batteries quite quickly, but if the alternative is a dead phone or no PDA for a cross-country flight, then the battery adapter is very handy.
