The Seidio Treo 700 Battery Comparison

Posted on 11 April 2007 by

Like many other Palm Treo owners who are trying to get through the day without constantly recharging, I found that the stock 1800mAh battery was not lasting nearly as long as I needed. The first solution I tried was the Seidio 2400mAh extended battery ($39.95), which helped a lot during regular daily usage.

But once I got a hosted exchange account – and discovered the battery drain that is push email, I quickly learned that even the extended battery was not quite enough. Enter the Seidio 3200mAh Ultra Extended battery ($54.95), a battery that offers nearly double the original’s power.

Obviously the 3200nAh battery is larger than both the original and 2400mAh extended batteries, so it comes with a replacement compartment door.

Besides the added battery life, the next coolest feature of this replacement battery and door is that Seidio drilled a hole into the precise spot needed to access the reset button without removing the battery compartment door. Brilliant!

The rectangular hunchback now present on the Treo takes some getting used to, but it’s mot too strange. ;-)

If you don’t need the 3200mAh or don’t want the bother of an extra bulge that may or may not fit in your favorite Treo case, do take a look at the 2400mAh extended battery. It fits behind the original door, and you can even take a Dremel tool to the OEM battery compartment cover if you want the same reset button ease of access.

But just in case you don’t feel confident enough to attack your cover with a drill, there is also an available Seidio battery cover with reset hole. ;-)

I started Gear Diary on September 30, 2006, and my goal was that this not be an easily labeled site. We all have gear that we use daily – some of it electronic and some of it organic. I think it is fascinating to explore the equipment that makes our lives easier, more entertaining, more productive, and more manageable. My hope is that Gear Diary visitors will find this site to be a comfortable and friendly place to discuss interesting topics – and not only those that are tech related, as well as a location to discover various types of gear – whatever that term may end up implying – that they never knew existed. My specialty is in-depth reviews written in a layman’s terms, because everyone can understand technology, sometimes it just takes a little translating. +Judie Stanford

I have a couple batteries that should work (they came in the Palm Trip Kit I got when I review the 700w); but I don’t have a cover that works with these. I wonder can you buy just a replacement cover for those batteries..?

  • http://www.geardiary.com Judie

Well! The extended battery actually comes with two covers (one for Verizon and one for Sprint), so if you would like me to send you my extra I would be happy to. :-)

Why do the CDMA users get a 50% bigger battery out of the box? I only have a 1200MAh battery. Grumble.

@ Chris Magnusson – EV-DO was known to be a battery hog, so Palm planned for that by giving them bigger batteries. The behavior of UMTS/HSDPA on the GSM Treo and its battery life were unknown until recently, and that may be one reason why they didn’t get a larger battery (tho they are in the same boat).

@Judie: The extra batteries I have are from the 700w/wx. As I said, they fit in the 750; but the cover doesn’t with the larger battery in. The battery I’ve got for the 750 is the 1200mAh flavor; and I don’t even know if the extra cover you have will fit the 750, let alone fit with the larger battery… :P

…and looking at the pictures you’ve got, the cover won’t work. the release mechanism for the cover on the 750 is on the bottom, where the release for the cover on the 700x/wx is at the top.

Sorry Chris, I misread – nevvvvvver mind. ;-)
