Tonight, after I finish the Don’t Bug Me Insect Repellent Patch review, I am going to reformat my T4215′s drive and reinstall XP. I’m not sure which problem it was that tipped the scale in XP’s favor exactly, maybe it was the…
1. Loss of my keyboard function buttons. 2. Loss of my tablet function buttons 3. Loss of the “eraser” on my tablet’s digital pen 4. Loss of the fingerprint scanner & software 5. I’ve not been able to get the printer to work properly (drivers still aren’t Vista approved) 6. I am sick of being told (as an administrator and the sole user of this laptop) that I don’t have permission to access a particular folder. I mean…come on!
Those are just the issues I can think of off the top of my head!
The fact of the matter is that nothing has worked properly since before this post, and I am tired of fooling with it. I’ll miss Vista Ultimate, but I will not miss the hassle of a crippled Tablet PC.
I started Gear Diary on September 30, 2006, and my goal was that this not be an easily labeled site. We all have gear that we use daily – some of it electronic and some of it organic. I think it is fascinating to explore the equipment that makes our lives easier, more entertaining, more productive, and more manageable. My hope is that Gear Diary visitors will find this site to be a comfortable and friendly place to discuss interesting topics – and not only those that are tech related, as well as a location to discover various types of gear – whatever that term may end up implying – that they never knew existed. My specialty is in-depth reviews written in a layman’s terms, because everyone can understand technology, sometimes it just takes a little translating. +Judie Stanford
The only problem I still seem to have on my 4215 (with Vista)is the lack of the Wacom pen eraser function you mentioned. Even with that driver you found to replace the “official” Vista driver, the eraser worked but the inking was of poorer (more jagged) quality. Much as I’m temped to return to XP the thought of reinstalling all the programs is daunting.

If that was the only problem I had (which was the case before I sent the Fuj in for repairs), then I would have been happy to stay with Vista.

The biggest problem with Vista for me has been Sleep and Shutdown. Until the other day (and I haven’t installd a bloody thing!), Sleep worked fine with Vista, where it didn’t with XP. Now every time I close the lid, instead of waking, my MBP restarts when I open it, and Vista complains that it didn’t shut down properly. PITA!!
