JAMMing On the Logitech FreePulse Wireless Headphones

Posted on 30 April 2007 by

Doug, one of the prolific reviewers at Just Another Mobile Monday, has just posted his take on the Logitech FreePulse headphones.

Doug says, “A Bluetooth peripheral is useless if you have nothing to connect it to.  One solution to this problem is offered by Logitech with their FreePulse headphones which include a Bluetooth receiver.  This receiver promises to turn any device with a 3.5 mm headphone or audio out jack into a Bluetooth capable device.  A lofty promise.  Snake oil if it fails…the promise of a new tomorrow if it succeeds.”

About their style, Doug said, “one of the biggest complaints I hear about Bluetooth headphones are that the phones over your ear are enormous (for no apparent reason) making everyone look like a Princess Leia impersonator.  The phones on the Logitech FreePulse, however, are not significantly larger than an average headphone, meaning they did not affect the profile of your head.  This sleek design was certainly appreciated.  For a change, when I wore these, I did not have the urge to call anyone a, “scruffy looking nerf-herder,” or ask “Aren’t you a little short for a stormtrooper?”"

$100 isn’t bad for a premium set of earphones, and if the Logitech’s deliver on their promise of BT connectivity on any player they may be worth every dollar. Obviously every player doesn’t come with Bluetooth, so the FreePulse Headset comes with a wireless receiver which will fit any 3.5mm jack. How is the resulting audio and battery life? You’ll have to read Doug’s full review to see.

I started Gear Diary on September 30, 2006, and my goal was that this not be an easily labeled site. We all have gear that we use daily – some of it electronic and some of it organic. I think it is fascinating to explore the equipment that makes our lives easier, more entertaining, more productive, and more manageable. My hope is that Gear Diary visitors will find this site to be a comfortable and friendly place to discuss interesting topics – and not only those that are tech related, as well as a location to discover various types of gear – whatever that term may end up implying – that they never knew existed. My specialty is in-depth reviews written in a layman’s terms, because everyone can understand technology, sometimes it just takes a little translating. +Judie Stanford
