Samsung BlackJack Review Coming Up on Gear Diary

Posted on 02 May 2007 by

The wonderful folks at Samsung have sent me a BlackJack to try out and review, and I have to say I am impressed! I’ve only had it for a couple of hours, but I am liking what I’m seeing. Great screen, HSDPA, great keyboard, and oh so slim!!

I have the SGH-i601, which is very similar to the Cingular i607, but drops the 850Mhz GSM and 1900Mhz UMTS bands. Running on the new Telstra “NextG” 850Mhz HSDPA network, I can tell you internet access is fast! About the same as my Treo 750 with the HSDPA hack. They included a Telstra SIM for me to fully test out its calling and data features which is great as my Three SIM won’t work in this phone (needs 2100Mhz UMTS). Also in the box was an extended battery, which does add a bit of thickness, but not much, and the phone is still quite slender.

(Thanks to Louisa at Edelman for setting all this up!)

I’ll have the BlackJack for a bit under 2 weeks, and will post the review shortly after.
