Scotty’s Ashes Lost In Mountains

Posted on 12 May 2007 by

I bet you thought I was going to say “lost in space,” right? Well, not exactly…

Evidently after his launch on April 28th, along with 200 other peoples’ cremains, the rocket carrying James Doohan (aka Star Trek‘s Scotty) “reached its planned altitude of 72.7 miles (117 kms) before coming down in a mountainous area.”

According to the BBC website, “A company spokesman said: “The terrain is very mountainous; it’s not somewhere that you can walk or drive to. My understanding is that it will take some time to get up there,”  and “They know the general location, and we have the utmost confidence that they will recover it.”

Yeah right, those ashes are totally lost! Do you think that Scotty would have wanted it that way? Maybe they were beamed up. ;-)

I started Gear Diary on September 30, 2006, and my goal was that this not be an easily labeled site. We all have gear that we use daily – some of it electronic and some of it organic. I think it is fascinating to explore the equipment that makes our lives easier, more entertaining, more productive, and more manageable. My hope is that Gear Diary visitors will find this site to be a comfortable and friendly place to discuss interesting topics – and not only those that are tech related, as well as a location to discover various types of gear – whatever that term may end up implying – that they never knew existed. My specialty is in-depth reviews written in a layman’s terms, because everyone can understand technology, sometimes it just takes a little translating. +Judie Stanford

Does anyone else find it ironic that Scotty’s ashes were lost due to an ENGINEERING error??? :)

I would just love to hear the radio transmission from that failed flight

Guidance: We can’t keep this up any longer. We need more power to make altitude.

Control: We’re givin’ her all she’s got, Captain…”

I’m sure they would have beamed out before the crash ;)
