I’ve held off long enough; as you all know, for some time Athena has been calling. With word of a promised WM6 upgrade coming soon, I finally gave in.

Athena, Ameo, U1000, Advantage…whatever.

After debating and then researching prices with Clinton, today I pushed the button.

The review will be coming soon.

Whether or not I keep her will be decided soon after.

Awaiting the new gadget euphoria…

Haha. You have been drooling over this for so long, it was only a matter of time before your Treo drowned.
May 14th, 2007 at 9:32 pm
Not exactly…Treo will now be voice, light email, and texting – while the Advantage will be data, eBooks, and surfing on the fly. As you know, the 240 x 240 Treo screen is some-kinda-lame for all of that!

Yeah I know
I have a similar “arrangement” with the Universal, it does the heaving lifting when it comes to websurfing, but the BlackJack takes care of everything else.
Its a real shame they didn’t go with an 800×600 display. That would have just been amazing! Not to say VGA isn’t great

I just hope you like it Judie (not with a Y)

Ha! If not, it will go on eBay.

Well Well, finally replacing the Jasjar.. I’ve been considering it myself, but will wait for your usual outstanding review before taking the plunge..
I’ve been using the Jasjam after selling my jasjar since I could actually carry it on my belt without looking like I was carrying a sidearm! But the keyboard and the screen beckon!
Yeah… About time..

Ha – I don’t mind being the guinea pig. I wonder when it will actually show up, though.

Oh Judie, that’s just *pretty*…I can’t wait to read your review. I’ll just have to live vicariously through you.
BTW, still loving the JAQ3!!! I cannot imagine life without it at this point.

Jessica,
Glad to hear you like the JAQ3. It is a great all around device. Just so you know, there is a WIndows Mobile 6 upgrade expected for the JAQ3. I’m not 100% sure when (or if) but it is expected to be free.

Judie, Had the pleasure of using one of these devices for about a month from HTC, we were looking at an all in one business solution, the one thing that really caught me by surprise was the magnetic keyboard, there are some really nice features on this device, including a VGA adapter kit to plug into monitors and HP’s JetDirect system on it as well, granted the version we tested was only WinMo 5, not 6. Have fun with it when you get it.

Judie, you will like this product, had the chance to beta test one for about a month for a possible all in one business solution, some of the nice things about this little beast, magnetic keyboard, VGA out for monitors and such, and HP JetDirect printing. Very nice. Enjoy.

Hi Jessica, I am glad to hear that the JAQ3 is working so well for you! Definitely get the WM6 upgrade for it!
@blueshockey69 – how did you like the keyboard for data entry? Did it wind up being more frustrating than you had expected? Or was it better than I think it will be?
May 17th, 2007 at 6:06 am
The keyboard took a little getting used to, it is one of those keyboards that feels like you have to mash the keys in to get it to work, but you dont, the keys are very sensitive, so in the end it was alot better then I expected, still took alittle getting used to. From my understanding it is possible that Best Buy in the States may carry this device as a standalone “pc”, price point will be around $799 from my understanding. It is also my understanding that the business folks at Disney are gaga over this device. I will say this, it does have its strong points, but it still isnt quite that all in one device that alot of businesses are looking for like ours. But I think you will like it.

This would totally figure, after I just dropped $1199!
Maybe that’s $799 with a T-Mo plan. I hope.
Thanks for the keyboard impressions! I have only ever played with one for a few moments, so I really didn’t get a chance to form a valid impression of the keyboard; this helps.

Judie, Actually that price point I quoted is without a Mobile plan at all. I know Cingular is still considering carrying this device for business based scenarios for customers but it isnt confirmed yet at all. Honestly I doubt Cingular will carry it, even more so since they have at least 5 new WinMo 6 devices in the loop for release this year. And I will be very candid as well on one thing, I do not believe that the Advantage is worth $1200, yes it has alot of capablities, but $1200 for a rather large phone with Wifi, AGPS, 8gb microdrive and a couple of nice cameras, granted that price is cheaper that I have seen for sale elsewhere, some places are charging $1495, hell I can get an OQO Model 2 for that price with my discounts.
Again darlin, only my opinion. I do hope you enjoy the device
May 17th, 2007 at 7:31 am
Yeah, I like the sounds of $800 a whole lot better! It is more in line with the price point I heard ages ago, but that I was beginning to give up on.
Ah well.
I agree that it probably isn’t “worth” $1200 (much less $1500); especially when you consider all of the sub $1K XP and Vista UMPCS coming out.
Battery life (among other things) had better be amazing.
