If you are like me, and I hope some of you are, you probably have fond memories of hanging out in the video arcades, feeding quarters into a big black box as your sweaty hand became one with the joystick. Back then, in the days before Playstation, X-Box or Wii (we called that the Dark Ages), having a gaming system in your home meant a giant black cabinet…a true video arcade game.
I had a friend who actually got one. We used to hang out in his basement playing free game after free game of asteroids (for you youngsters, Asteroids is a classic video arcade game, in which you control a spaceship navigating through an asteroid belt. Shatter the giant rock forms with your laser in order to make it safely through to the next level).
Well, today, we received an email from DreamAuthentics, which brought back all of these memories of the 1980’s. DreamAuthentics is a leading manufacturer of custom-built personal arcade cabinets, just like the ones from my childhood. Now, they have launched the Katana, the first model in DreamAuthentics’ line designed to sit on a table top or bar top, allowing you to convert any room into an “entertainment destination.” The cabinet comes preloaded with over 200 licensed games and also functions as a jukebox, computer and DVD player. Heck, you could even use it to watch Judie’s unboxing of the HTC Advantage.
The Katana, like all DreamAuthentics products, is built for individual customers’ specifications. You just use DreamAuthentics’ unique online configurator to customize your personal gaming cabinet, from the color of the buttons to the size of the joystick. Want to play Ms. Pac Man under the glow of “Doug’s Classic Arcade”? With a custom marquee above the monitor, it’s no problem. The Katana packs a visual punch with a 17″ flat screen display.
The Katana doesn’t skimp on audio features either-it comes standard with DreamAuthentics’ exclusive jukebox feature which includes classic jukebox style buttons on the front of the cabinet. This replicates the look and feel of a commercial music jukebox with its 2-speaker system and subwoofer, while incorporating the technology of current MP3 software. The Katana features a PC-based game engine so you can play any off-the-shelf PC game or hook up your PlayStation or XBOX. Plus, you can surf the net or watch a DVD.
So head on over to DreamAuthentics and check out their full selection of video arcade games. Before you know it, you’ll be dodging Donkey Kong’s barrels and grabbing that floating wooden mallet. Just like the good old days…ah nostalgia.
