When we received the press release for this latest product for adventure seekers, everyone here at Gear Diary looked at it with visions of hospital stays and broken necks. I looked at the Swissbikeboard a little differently. I thought, I love bike riding…and I have been known to love skateboarding. Put the two together, and is this really all that complicated? Well, Swissbike, a leader in the new category of multifunctional recreational products, recently announced the answer to all of my questions (some of which I had not even realized I asked) with the Bikeboard Offroad and Bikeboard Street. Easy to assemble (uh-oh, I’ve heard that before) and ride (I’ve heard that before too), the Offroad and Street versions of Swissbikeboard provide expert maneuverability and mobility both on even and uneven terrain. What does all of this mean? It means Doug can’t wait to give it a try. It also means that Doug had better make sure his health insurance is up to date.

Offroad Action 05

Both the Swissbikeboard Street and Offroad feature a semi-integrated Alloy frame and fork with a quick release system similar to bicycles to allow for speedy changes from Offroad to Street. The Bikeboards fold up easily for transport and fit into a backpack for riders on-the-go. Designed to be high performance products, the Bikeboard Offroad and Street are built solid to withstand heavy weight and extended use.

Equipped with off-road wheels in both the front and back, the Swissbikeboard Offroad is designed for rugged terrain. bbstreet4 03It features a fiberglass reinforced platform with a double axle 135mm Rear Shock suspension and two double mechanism disc brakes to adjust speed the same way as a mountain bike. Weighing approximately 38 lbs., the durable 16 inch front and 6 inch rear wheels on the Offroad have alloy rims and hubs with sealed bearing and a quick release on the front wheel.

The Swissbikeboard Street is also constructed with a fiberglass platform but is designed for performing on flat surfaces. Equipped with a patented 110mm Rear Shock suspension system for easy maneuverability, moves typically performed downhill on snow are achievable on the street. Like the Bikeboard Offroad, the Street version features two double mechanism disc brakes and quick release system. The semi-slick 14 inch front and 4 inch rear wheels have alloyed rims with sealed bearings and the weight is approximately 30 lbs.

The Bikeboard Offroad costs $998. The Bikeboard Street retails at $978. Both are available from www.swissbikeboard.com.
