iPhone Disassembled!

While some may consider my disinterest in and not wanting a iPhone to be considered sacrilegious of being a geek, I do however find the iPhone disassembly pictures very interesting. I really like seeing how things are made and what hides under its outer casing. It appears the very same day that the iPhone came out, the guys at iFixit acquired a couple of units and disassembled one of them for the viewing pleasure of the curious.

Overcoming Anything With Subliminal Flash

Last month, Ded Pyhto, a software company which develops psychological application software, released Subliminal Flash version 3.0. Subliminal Flash is a Windows application that runs in the background displaying messages at speeds that the conscious mind is unable to see, but the subconscious mind is able to.

When I read the release information about the program and saw that it helps raise self-confidence, and helps get rid of complexes, and shyness. I thought to myself, this seems worth a try, as I have shyness issues and my self-confidence is not so good either.

Unboxing the HTC Mogul, Sprint’s New WM6 Phone

I got a sweet surprise from HTC on Friday: the brand new Sprint HTC Mogul, which is a major upgrade to the HTC Apache / Sprint PPC-6700 and which incedentally does not appear to be called the PPC-6800 anywhere but on its battery. I’ll have the use of it for a month, and a full review will be coming soon. But in the meantime here is a video unboxing, some information, and a few photos…

DLO TransDock Deluxe Rox!

Lately, it seems like I can’t walk into a Costco or a Sam’s Club without seeing a new wireless adapter to play an iPod though the stereo system of my truck. Unfortunately, it also seems like I can’t see one of these without buying it.

This is because most of them haven’t really worked worth a squat between their awkward controls and their inability to hold a station to deliver a static-free transmission of the treasure trove of southern rock, funk and Richard Pryor albums I have stored on my video iPod.

Of all the gadgets I’ve tried to retrofit my 1999 Tahoe to the 21st century music delivery system, the TransDock Deluxe is definitely another one. But seriously, it is the best one I have used and I think it may actually be the solution I have been looking for.

Feed the BoneyBoy

I don’t remember ever hearing about this game, so when Allistair Lee of Mobile View sent me an email announcing his review of Mobisation’s BoneyBoy, I had to check it out.

Allistair says, “BoneyBoy is a classical Jump’n’ Run that offers a “multi-layer scrolling, rendered animations and backgrounds and a stunning sound. You have to guide the little pygmy Boneyboy through the jungle to clear each stage. Shinny from liane to liane, jump from platform to platform and collect various items that help you to come forward. But watch out: many opponents and traps will give you a hard time. Think about: you will explore a world full of danger.”"

iPhone Ad Three-Pack

Some enterprising editor has spliced together three iPhone ads, including Apple’s latest which talks about how “no iPod does this…”

This video is really intriguing to watch, and the ooooh! factor is very high. In fact, I think it’s safe to say that after watching, you’ll want to (at the very least) play with an iPhone; the pretty GUI simply looks amazing.

Happy Birthday Doug G.!

Please join me in wishing Doug Goldring a very Happy Birthday! Doug is not only a Gear Diary Team Member and the News and Reviews Editor at JAMM, he is also an attorney with the Department of Justice (Federal Bureau of Prisons), and father of two and a half (soon to be three) little ones. Let’s just say that Doug is one insanely busy man who happens to have the world’s most understanding wife (Hi Sarah!).

Happy Birthday Doug!

Doug hasn’t been with Gear Diary for all that long, but he has jumped into the review pool with both feet; I honestly don’t think he ever sleeps!

If you would like to encourage Doug’s gadget obsession, or just ask him how he does it all, then you should send him an email or leave a comment here. You might also surprise him with a little something from his Wish List.

Have a wonderful birthday Doug - no working! (yeah, right!) ;-)

The HTC S710 (Vox) Quick Review

As a person who is constantly looking for the next best device for business use, it amazes me that no one came up with this design before HTC did. A quote straight from PhoneArena.Com says it all:  The HTC S710 is the most compact messaging phone with an auto-sliding QWERTY keyboard. It is the first smartphone powered by the new Windows Mobile 6 Standard platform. This new platform provides genuine mobile Office Outlook experience, greater control of Outlook Mobile Calendar, better Internet Explorer Mobile browsing experience and Windows Live. It also offers greater interoperability with Exchange Server 2007 providing you with improved e-mail management (such as Fetch Mail and Set Flags), Out-of-Office assistant, and HTML e-mail viewing capabilities.

And boy are they right, I picked this device up about a week ago and have been trying to use it religiously, but when you carry an average of 8 devices constantly it can be hard to do so sometimes.

The DVD Stripper Review

You know how there are certain gadgets that you just don’t think you’ll ever need until someone shows you theirs? And then you catch yourself going, “hmm…that’s pretty cool!” Well, you’ll find that tonight’s review falls into that category.

Think about all the times you’ve bought a DVD, and while unwrapping the clear outer plastic you wondered to yourself why, in addition to the outer wrapper, there had to be a heavy plastic sticker across the top and front of the DVD. I’ve gotten in a hurry before and accidentally broken fingernails while trying to peel back these heavy stickers; they can be a real pain. Although I am guessing that the stickers are there as some sort of theft deterrent, as a paying customer I find them simply obnoxious.

Lori Powers, the inventor behind the CD Stripper which I reviewed ages ago, has done it again. In my previous review, I lamented the fact that most of the music I purchase anymore is digital and therefore downloaded. To quote myself, the CD Stripper was “convenient, easy and safe to use. I just wish that it had been available years ago, when I was at the height of my CD buying. I really need one of these that works with DVDs…”

And here it is…Yay! :-)
