Busy, Busy Clinton

Tomorrow Today is Clinton’s birthday, but instead of taking the weekend off – or getting outside and enjoying the crazy Texas weather, or perhaps cleaning out his garage (which is what I was doing all day), he was working on his latest masterpiece – a review of the O2 Xda Zinc.

Total aside: It’s good to know I am not the only one that puts the wrong device’s (meaning improperly fitting) protector on my newest PDA’s virgin screen. ;-)

According to Clinton’s press release, because the man is nothing if not thorough:

The latest review here at Clinton Fitch (Dot) Com! is on the O2 Xda Zinc Windows Mobile phone. What makes this review different than others of the device?

This is one of the first reviews – if not the first – of the O2 Xda Zinc with O2′s Windows Mobile 6 Professional ROM!

Over the past two years multiple carriers and manufactures of Windows Mobile devices have released a plethora of devices with slide-out keyboard designs. While the majority of these devices have been good, many of them have lacked the raw processing power needed to be a true “power user” device.

O2, a carrier and manufacture well known through Europe, Asia and the Middle East has been one of the last OEMs to release such a design but the wait has been worth it.

O2 has developed a strong player in the O2 Xda Zinc that has plenty of processing power, loaded with features and a staggering battery life. Making it even more compelling, O2 has committed to the release of Windows Mobile 6 Professional upgrade for the Zinc, on which this review is based. The Zinc, developed by AsusTek and known as the Mars II, is a welcome entry into this competitive portion of the Windows Mobile market.

Now go enjoy a well deserved break Clinton, I mean…seriously! :-)

*Yeah, for whatever reason Outlook was showing his birthday as the 4th, but it is actually the 3rd! Urgh! It just means that Clinton is even more of a review maniac than I originally thought!

I started Gear Diary on September 30, 2006, and my goal was that this not be an easily labeled site. We all have gear that we use daily – some of it electronic and some of it organic. I think it is fascinating to explore the equipment that makes our lives easier, more entertaining, more productive, and more manageable. My hope is that Gear Diary visitors will find this site to be a comfortable and friendly place to discuss interesting topics – and not only those that are tech related, as well as a location to discover various types of gear – whatever that term may end up implying – that they never knew existed. My specialty is in-depth reviews written in a layman’s terms, because everyone can understand technology, sometimes it just takes a little translating. +Judie Stanford

I was using a hacked Dopod 838 Pro screen protector on my BlackJack till recently :P

I really like this device, I didn’t initally but now I think it is pretty nice. I like the 3 Australia operator settings screenshot ;)

On the screen protector…. When I first got the Zinc it was so new that NOBODY had any sort of accessories for it. Being one that doesn’t like to have an exposed screen, I had to do something. The protector on the device is actually one for the Atom. I have a one for the Zinc on the way.

On the device…. The first few ROMs for the device needed help and have definately improved the funcationality and usability of it. The WM6 ROM I’m using is just rock solid despite it not being in final form.

Overall I’m quite pleased with the design and function of it. It feels more solid than some of the HTC devices out there.

    That’s pretty impressive then!
