The fine folks at MetaGeek have recently put out version 2.1.2 of the Chanalyzer software for the Wi-Spy USB 2.4 GHz spectrum analyzer. The new version, while maintaining the original functions of the older software, introduces a new topographic view, ability to show all three views on screen at the same time (the old version software only allowed one view) and has a super polished look to it. If you’re a Wi-Spy user like me, I highly recommend upgrading to the new version, which can be downloaded here.

Now, I know there are some readers out there who don’t know what the Wi-Spy is. It is a small inexpensive spectrum analyzer for 2.4 GHz frequencies. The USB plug-in device is intended for troubleshooting interference from other WI-FI networks, microwave ovens, cordless phones, bluetooth, and zigbee devices. The Wi-Spy device is perfect for easily figuring out why your wireless network is slow or keeps disconnecting. The Wi-Spy will show on its graphs, what frequency channels are clear or full of interference. If you want see this in action for yourself, you can download the Chanalyzer software and run the recordings that come bundled with it or download more recordings from the MetaGeek website.

The Wi-Spy is available in two versions, one with a internal antenna (MSRP $199.00) and one with a more powerful external antenna (MSRP $399.00). Both can be ordered directly from the MetaGeek website store.
