The movie Transfomers which is due out on July 4th, is getting the big merchandising treatment blitz, and that includes video games. All the gaming systems will be getting a version, so that gamers can relive the onscreen action at home. But I want to talk about the Nintendo DS version, which is more exciting to me as the DS is my favorite gaming platform. I want these games bad, as I am a Transformers fan. They’ve gotten the big hype treatment on IGN and Gamespot.
The marketing gurus have a big plan on the Nintendo DS, there will be two versions; one game is the Autobots and the other is the Decepticons. Yep, if one wants to be the good guys its the Autobot version, and the Decepticon version for those who want to be the bad guys. But what that comes down to for hardcore gamers, is having to buy both versions at $29.99 each and totaling 59.98 before sales tax. Double the cash out for the gamer and double the profits for the company.
Was it a bunch of Ferengis in charge of the Nintendo DS version project? Yeah, at first, I was thinking that DS gamers are getting stuck with paying double to have both sides. But, I now believe that the limitations of the DS hardware, mainly the 128 MB cartridges, could be the reason why there is two versions. It makes sense that they had to break the game up to provide a truly awesome gaming experience, as all the graphics and stuff for the Autobots and Decepticons may not fit one cartridge.
The preview screen shots and descriptions of the game sure make it look awesome!
