I really don’t remember how I came across the art of Nate Hill, but his work really caught my attention. You see, his art supplies are very unique in that they are not the typical canvas, paint, clay or anything that you would think of being used for art. He uses animal parts that he finds in the garbage of New York City’s Manhattan Chinatown. Those with a queasy stomach or sensitivity to seeing weird works of taxidermy may not want to read on or click on the links provided; you have been warned. ;-) For those with a sense of adventure, click the link below to continue.

The first thought that came to my head when I saw the pictures of Nate’s work was, that looks like something that I saw in the video game Half-Life.

Nate’s art is somewhat bizarre and I think his creations would be at home on the movie set of a sci-fi movie. The second picture definitely looks like an alien animal. I love sci-fi and alien stuff, which is why I find Nate’s art so interesting.

Nate’s current project is making a life size human using animal parts; expected completion of the project is January of 2008.

Upcoming is Nate’s “Chinatown Garbage Tour” on Thursday, August 16, 2007 at 9PM, when he will show how to collect dead animal parts and identify what can or can’t be used. While I find his art interesting, I will not be partaking in the garbage tour; I have an aversion to touching garbage and getting dirty. Trust me, Chinatown garbage is bad: the animal parts that can’t be sold at market plus summer heat, equals for some very freaky stink. But if you live in New York City, or will be in town and are not afraid of some stinky garbage, this is a great way to meet the artist.
