Well, turns out my adventures with the JASJAR were embarrassingly short-lived. I’ll spare you the gory details, suffice to say that drinking on an empty stomach and being literally blind drunk does not go well with fumbling with an oversized phone and trying to call various people to come and rescue you from wherever you’ve drunkenly stumbled to.

The damage (busted hinge):

But I’m not too upset. After using it for a few days, I found it annoying to use as my main phone – just too bulky and unwieldy. So I’ve popped my SIM card into the Dopod 838Pro, and that’ll tide me over until I get a new Windows Mobile device.

Speaking of which, I think I may have already found the replacement: the HTC Touch Slider (click through for more images). I really liked the original Touch, but it was too slow and didn’t have 3G. The Slider fixes both of these concerns and adds a cool slider keypad. Totally droolalicious, and my sources tell me that this will be touching down in Australia in October. Huzzah!

Nice one Jenneth! Drinking on an empty stomach used to be the only way to go every Friday a long time ago for me. In fact, I seem to recall we would joke about ‘not eating on an empty stomach’ and that would get funnier with every Grolsch or Budvar ….

Jenneth you are so funny! Thanks for the mental image of you “fumbling with an oversized phone and trying to call various people to come and rescue you from wherever you’ve drunkenly stumbled to.”

    Loves it.

Lol, yeah the JASJAR isn’t exactly the best “everyday” phone ever made, far from it in fact.

I am liking the look of the Touch Slider! I want a compact WM6 device for my next phone.

He he! What a sight that would be! And the utterance when the Jasjar hit the deck!

I do like the HTC Touch, and really not sure why I’m keeping it, your points and the fact that its not a quad band phone are making it difficult to keep, but I just like carrying it around!

Probably because its WM6 and I’m still waiting for my BlackJack and Treo 750 WM6 Updates!

I’ve had an HTC Touch for a few days, and the hardest thing for me to get used to is not having a keyboard of any kind. I am soooo spoiled by these slider / front keyboard phones!

But the Touch is a cute, small, and (when over-clocked) decently speedy PDA Phone – and it feels good in my hand! The new Touch Slider should take care of my (and others) few current complaints! :-)

You’ve never heard of the dangers of dialing while drunk?

I suppose gravity adds another one. ;)

@Mitchell: Great service! I could’ve used that service on that night – my ex played me back the voicemail I left on his phone… too, too embarrassing!

Makes me glad that when I was younger I only carried a pager. I ruined one when I fell off a boat tied to the dock by my equally tipsy friend.

That’s what I have the Motofone for ;)

Last party I went to a couple of friends and I played soccer with it on the driveway :P

Chris, the JasJar doesn’t slide; it opens, rotates, and flips shut. *Very* easy to screw up when you’re drunk. The only solution is a cardo headset and voice dialing.

I did the same thing Jenneth did; after a few weeks or so, I just gave up and went back to using my Motorola V180, which I didn’t stop using until I got the iPhone. The JasJar is just too durn big.

Wow, I would love to have a Hermes as my backup phone. Can I call dibs on it when you get the Touch Slider? :)
