Please join me in wishing a very Happy Birthday to the lovely, beautiful, vivacious and talented Jenneth Orantia!
I’ll tell you a little story about my friendship with her…
I’ve enjoyed reading Jenneth’s various blogs over the years, and I finally got the opportunity to meet her in the flesh at the 2006 Thailand Mobius event. Jenneth and I were the only two female bloggers invited, and in all honesty (and to each of our deep regret) we spent the first day eyeballing each other as alpha-females will often do. I don’t know which one of us broke the ice first, but from that moment on we have been great friends.
Once together, Jenneth and I became a force of nature – ringleaders in helping (more like shaming) the “boys” (John Starkweather, Joel Evans, and Derek Snyder) get past their fears so they could participate with us during our infamous snake escapade. If you want to see some fun times, check out my Mobius 2006 set on Flickr and watch the videos from the Cobra Show – yes, that’s Jenneth and me squealing like little girls in the background!

And just in case you missed it – here is Miss Jenneth with the photo-op snake!

Once we returned from Mobius, Jenneth and I both decided to start our own sites. She began the very well received (but now defunct) Girls Gone Mobile, and I started Gear Diary. From the beginning, we cheered each other on and cooperated together to promote our blogs, our Mobius friends, and other sites which we both enjoyed. I can honestly say that Jenneth’s friendship and support has been reason that Gear Diary became the site it is today and not just a repository for my personal musings while writing freelance for others.
She calls us online BFFs, and I totally agree. ![]()
After a while, Jenneth decided that keeping Girls Gone Mobile updated in addition to keeping up with her paying techno-journal freelance gigs was a bit of a hassle, and she decided to join the team on Gear Diary; this was a huge coup for Gear Diary, as you can imagine. Since throwing her lot in with us, Jenneth has written some truly awesome posts – only a few of which I’ll share with you here:
Can the Zune Satisfy my iPod Touch Gadget Lust?
Voice Clips on Windows Messenger
The classic Trouble in Paradise
The perils of being a gadget reviewer
And I could go on and on…but who could ever forget Shame File: Farewell Dear JASJAR, it was short but sweet?! It’s a classic!
You can see all of Jenneth’s articles and reviews here.
If you would like to get to know her even better, you can read a much more in-depth article on the fabulous Jenneth here. Now that she is practically family, how about leaving her a quote telling her how wonderful she is?
Happy Birthday Jenneth! Thank you for a wonderful year of friendship and for all of your support! I hope you have a wonderful birthday and an even better next year! ![]()
