366* Days of Photos

Posted on 02 January 2008 by

Kerry did something last year that I thought was amazing, he took (or at least attempted to take) a photo a day for every day of 2007, and he blogged about each one. I remember thinking it was one of the neatest ideas ever when I first saw him post about it, but I wasn’t quite motivated enough to do it myself…yet.

This year he is doing it again, and this year Mitchell and I have also decided to give it a go. We aren’t going to blog about our photos so much as add descriptions of what we were thinking when we took them. Even so it will be a challenge to keep it up, and no matter what it will be fun.

Would you care to do it with us? If so, then just post the link to your 2008 set in the comments below.

That sounds like fun …. I just might get in on this one too.

Post your link if you do, so we can all keep up! :-)

These things are cool. I remember seeing a video last year made by a guy who took a picture of his face every day for awhile. He made a movie of it with nice classical background music. It was stunning work and really made you feel that time is slipping by.

Hmmm, sounds interesting, I want to try too, but I couldn’t even keep up with my personal blog. I doubt I would be able to keep taking a picture a day every day for a year lol.

I’ll be in … just need a day or two to configure my blog. I hate doing anything half and half – so rather than start with just a link to my flickr account, I’m destroying an old blog and re-inventing it.

Bjenk, I think I saw that same video. I should have posted it here; I thought it was stunning work, too.

Lee, your photographs are amazing! Thank you for posting your link. :-D

Will, just do it on Flickr and you can post pictures from your camera phone – there’s less hassle that way.

Brandon, that sounds great! Link when you are ready… :-D

Guys this is an awesome idea. I love it. Please consider a link from the front page so we all remember to check.

One reminder – Flickr will let you email photos to your account. I do this all the time from my Blackberry and it’s a great convenient way to get photos off your phone and onto flickr.

Might also consider using a common tag if uploading to flickr — something like geardiary2008

    I’m in

Here is my set. I already missed the first day!

I tried out the mobile upload feature yesterday which worked a treat, so I can upload straight from my phone, makes it even easier!

    Good idea Wayne.

How about if those of us who are using Flickr use the tag “GearDiary2008″, and then I can make a single link on the front page. :-)

Judie, I still don’t have a cell. If I manage to get the job at the ASU computer lab I’ll be able to get one, but if I don’t, I’ll still be phoneless lol.

Awwww! Good luck getting the job, ASU would be lucky to have you! :-D

Well … it’s not perfect yet (by any means) but I re-purposed my blog and set it up so I can play too.

I’ve also put a Flickr sidebar on there to show random images from everyone with a Flickr account and the tag GearDiary2008.

Ooh! I read about doing something like this on Lifehacker and decided to adopt it as one of my new years resolutions – a One Photo A Day photo project.

Mine is a bit more personal though, so keeping it private for now – more like a photo diary so I can remember significant events throughout the year and be able to review them all a year later. Now I finally have a use for that Flickr Pro account I set up ages ago!

For those using Flickr and a Windows Mobile device, try Shozu for automatically uploading pictures from your phone. Three days into the new year, I’ve managed to take pictures from 3 different mobile devices!

I started Gear Diary on September 30, 2006, and my goal was that this not be an easily labeled site. We all have gear that we use daily – some of it electronic and some of it organic. I think it is fascinating to explore the equipment that makes our lives easier, more entertaining, more productive, and more manageable. My hope is that Gear Diary visitors will find this site to be a comfortable and friendly place to discuss interesting topics – and not only those that are tech related, as well as a location to discover various types of gear – whatever that term may end up implying – that they never knew existed. My specialty is in-depth reviews written in a layman’s terms, because everyone can understand technology, sometimes it just takes a little translating. +Judie Stanford
