My Griffin iTrip is far superior and will broadcast at 87.9FM, something the "clearscan" can not do. I wanted to be able to charge and play my iPod at the same time, thus the reason for replacing the iTrip. However, I am back to using my old iPod, using the iTrip for 87.9 and charging it with the clearscan- an expensive adapter. I have also questioned Mac people in their stores where they sell this and found them ignorant about the accessory.
Overall: Low volume, high static (in the Tetons, for gods sake), and poor features. Defective? Can I get my money back?

I will agree with the two previous critiques that found the clear scan unacceptable and I am not prepared to try another. I was underwhelmed. Maybe it's the combination of the Tunebase and my car, a Peugeot 406 wagon - the aerial is on the roof at the rear of the car - possibly too far away to pick up the low signal of the Tunebase. The sound is OK but not great, there's a faint but noticeable RF distortion which I suspect would make listening on a long distance trip a bit tedious. I'll still take a box of CD's with me on long trips. I might return it and see if another one is better.

I bought one of these based on the design and used it for the first time today. I was underwhelmed. Hopefully a new one will solve the problem! :-)

@squalodon68 – I have got to go with “defective”, as I didn’t experience any of the issues you did. I am very disappointed with it. It produces unacceptable static on all stations. If I move my hand anywhere near the TuneBase, the static gets far worse. The static only goes away if I hold the cigarette lighter plug adapter, but if I take my hand off it the static instantly returns. I have used a DLO TransDock for 3 years and get a very clear signal with it. I really like the design of the TuneBase and it holds my heavy iPod in place very well, but I can't deal with the static. Maybe I bought a defective one.

I bought the Belkin TuneBase FM with ClearScan the other day based on this review. I am very disappointed with it.
