Contest Interruptus Ends With a Bangus! Commences

Posted on 10 March 2008 by

This contest is now closed, and the winners have been notified and posted here. Thank you for participating! :-)

Before our month of give-aways was so rudely interrupted by the server crash of 2008 (from now on to be known as “BC”), we were nearing the end of the giving cycle, but I still had 10 days worth of goodies left to go.

I have decided to save those items for the next massive give-away (most likely to be done in time for Christmas). So instead, we are going to pull out the stops to end this contest with a bang!

We have two Windows Mobile 6 Professional (Pocket PC) unlocked PDA phones to give away: an O2 Atom Life which was generously donated by TTT and an HTC Touch Dual that I was given at Mobius 2007 by HTC and Microsoft; both phones are Euro 3G. We also have eight (8) Amazon gift certificates, each worth $25, which were donated anonymously.

The two phones have been gently used, but each come with their original boxes and goodies. The gift certificates are brand new. ;-)

Basically, there will be ten winners, and here is how you could be one of them…

Everybody gets three opportunities to enter, which means up to triple the chances of winning.

Entries will be accepted as follows:

1. Your first entry should just be a simple post, perhaps why you would like to win a particular item, or what you would like to do with it if you won – nothing too difficult, okay?

2. Your second entry must be a short paragraph about your favorite gadget, and why it is your favorite gadget. Be creative – as you have probably figured out by now, amusing the Team helps us pick winners. ;-)

3. Your third entry, should you decide to do one, must be a link to a picture of you with a gadget posted to your Flickr account and tagged with “geardiarycontest“. These pictures might be taken somewhere interesting, can be humorous, fun, serious – whatever you want; just please keep it clean. ;-)

To inspire you, here are a few Gear Diary Team photos…

Be sure to read the small print, and GOOD LUCK!

The Small Print:

  • You may create up to three entries; they must follow this format:
    • Your first entry should just be a simple post, perhaps why you would like to win a particular item, or what you would like to do with it if you won – nothing fancy.
    • Your second entry must be a short paragraph about your favorite gadget, and why it is your favorite gadget.
    • Your third entry, should you decide to do one, must be a link to a picture of you with a gadget posted to your Flickr account and tagged with “geardiarycontest“. These pictures can be taken somewhere interesting, humorous, serious – whatever you want; just please keep it clean. ;-)
  • You must be registered on Gear Diary to enter and comment, and  you can register here. We will never spam you, all registering means is you are now capable of commenting.
  • Make sure that you have judie (at) geardiary . com in your non-spam list – if I don’t hear from you within 48 hours after the winners’ emails are sent, then the item will go to someone else.
  • Give-away closes at 5:30 pm CST on March 31, 2008.
  • Winners will be announced soon after.
  • All decisions on the winners will be made by the Gear Diary Team, and they are final. No whining, because that’s lame.
  • There are a few items to ship, and I am paying for shipping – so it may take up to a week for your item to leave the house. It will get to you – be patient!
  • Contest is open to everyone, everywhere – unless there is some legal reason why a particular item can’t be shipped to your country. In that unlikely event, the item will go to someone else…sorry! :-(
  • I’m paying postage – but you are responsible if there are any import duties or taxes.
  • It’s up to me which shipping method to use – if you want your prize faster, cough up some money. ;-)
  • Team members aren’t eligible to win, but we had fun entering. ;-)

Okay – get those entries going…and lots of pictures please; we love those! :-)

I started Gear Diary on September 30, 2006, and my goal was that this not be an easily labeled site. We all have gear that we use daily – some of it electronic and some of it organic. I think it is fascinating to explore the equipment that makes our lives easier, more entertaining, more productive, and more manageable. My hope is that Gear Diary visitors will find this site to be a comfortable and friendly place to discuss interesting topics – and not only those that are tech related, as well as a location to discover various types of gear – whatever that term may end up implying – that they never knew existed. My specialty is in-depth reviews written in a layman’s terms, because everyone can understand technology, sometimes it just takes a little translating. +Judie Stanford

Awesome!! I just checked to see if Amazon.com also ships to the Netherlands, and they do, but they charge $4 per shipment + $4 per item, so that’s a fast way to get to the $25. If I’d win a Pocket PC, I would naturally use it for gaming, or, if I could find a Dutch ROM for it, I would give it to my mother who is currently looking to get a new phone but finds Pocket PC’s too expensive. My firlfriend just got a HTC Touch a week ago since she likes my Pocket PC so much, so how great would it be if I could also convince another female in my life to use a PPC!?

It’s OK to put my second in the same, single, post I assume? Ok, let’s do it. My favourite two gadgets are my HTC TyTn II and my iPod video 30 GB U2 special edition – I bring them with me all the time. However, the iPod is only good for music, video, and very basic gaming, so my TyTn II would win this competition. I get comments from people around me saying “You’re online all the time, aren’t you?” because I usually reply to e-mails quite fast. Also, I enjoy not only using my HTC TyTn II as a tool that helps me doing other things, but also as an end in itself – I very much enjoy writing, reading and talking about it, playing with it, working with it. Finally, if it wasn’t for my HTC Wizard and TyTn II, I wouldn’t know nearly as much people from other countries as I do now, and my English would be a lot worse. If dedicating a lot of time to Pocket PC’s makes me a geek, so be it, but then that’s a very good thing because it brings me lots of good and fun things!

As for the third entry, it’s against my principle to register on a site for just one situation, and then eventually having dozens of accounts on all kinds of services, without ever using them. Who knows who decides to do what with my personal information, without me ever checking back on that site, and possible even forgetting my login information. So registering on Flicker (which isn’t as big in the Netherlands as it is in the US) just for this contest and then not using it again, is not going to happen. So only 2 entries for me, which is a good thing for all of the other competitors! Good luck all. :)

From what I have seen of my friends’ gear, the HTC Touch looks like a really good unit. Chuck a GPS in it and you have an excellent device. That is my first entry.

  • jjaakk

My supplementary brain is my favourite gadget – that is my Palm Treo 680. Without this permanent appendage in my pocket, I would be missing a bit of my brain. My kids tease me about have a one year reminder on my anniversary entries – get it? And I have worn out the front left pocket on nearly every pair of jeans I own – that is where I keep my supplementary brain. The fact that it is a phone, spreadsheet, camera, music & video player, contacts list, diary and all the other things I have loaded on it, it sure is one handy device.

  • jjaakk

And here is my 3rd entry – me and my Treo ! http://www.flickr.com/photos/12741756@N02/2322991717/

    first post:

I would like to win the HTC Touch Dual. This would be an excellent gift for my better half and I’m sure she would appreciate her first WM6 device together with all that touch goodness.

  • monkey2nut

    second post:

My favourite gadget at the moment is my Motorola HT830 Bluetooth stereo headset. I use this with my HTC MDA Vario III (think Tilt) and get excellent wireless audio when listening to my tunes on the media player.

Wayne’s picture was not necessarily the first thing I needed to see this morning. I’m having enough trouble getting used to DST as it is…

I can’t help but be reminded of that famous painting, “The Kramer.”

“He’s a loathsome, offensive brute, yet I can’t look away.”

  • Heatwave316

I would love to have 1 of the phones to replace my other electronic brain. See, I have a Palm TX, and I also have a cell phone, but for some reason, I find it hard to remember both. So, most of the time, I forget my TX. That’s a big problem since its the most reliable brain I have. My regular brain is definitely not so good at remembering meetings and other important tidbits. For example, just last week I forgot my ‘brain’ at home for 2 days in a row. I finally found it Wednesday morning, and it was telling me I had an 8am meeting!!! That was especially bad since I was on pace to get to work at about 8:30am. Good thing for me someone else was late as well.

If I could combine the cell phone and the electronic brain together, I would cut the chances of forgetting one my devices way down. That would just be awesome!!!

As for Amazon, I’ve discovered this new past time called reading. Its very interesting, it has a bunch of words together that form a story, but get this, no pictures. Its just a wild thing!!! After studiny engineering all through college, I thought books just had lots of equations and numbers. Since I just finished 3 books in about 3 weeks, I need some help getting my printed work fix. An Amazon gift certificate would be so nice.

Plus, I do have a birthday coming up on March 16th!!! I’m sandwiched right between the Ides of March and St. Patty’s day. :)

  • Heatwave316

Shucks!!! I don’t think either phone will work for Verizon. I thought the HTC will, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Why are GSM phones always so much cooler??? :???:

Anyway, I would still like to be entered for the gift certificates, but it looks like no phones for me, unless someone knows something I missed.

  • http://www.geardiary.com Judie Lipsett

Awww, sorry – these are GSM phones and they take SIM cards, so they won’t work with CDMA (Sprint & Verizon).

  • Joel Mclaughlin

Wayne almost made me laugh out load once I got to work! DAMN funny.

    25$ amazon gift certificate!

2 years ago, they brought Trident Gum to supermarkets here in Lebanon. I tried the Watermelon twist and Tropical Twist and I seriously FELL IN LOVE WITH IT. It’s the nicest, most refreshing gum I ever tasted. Dang, i’m just salivating thinking about it! You could smell it from 10 feet! Lol, you probably never heard anyone talk about gum this way :p Anyway, one month later, I was going to buy some again, and I couldn’t find them anywhere. I asked every store I know, to find out that they wouldn’t import them to Lebanon anymore!

A few days ago, I found them on Amazon, but problem is that I don’t have an internet card to buy them. The big pack costs 10$ so I could probably get 2 for the certificate, one watermelon and one tropical.

I realize how stupid this is, but in order to add credibility to my statement, check my 2-week-old jaiku: http://khouryrt.jaiku.com/presence/27211957

I would love to win one of the Pocket PC phones to give to my husband as a gift. Today is our one-year wedding anniversary and during the last year, he has worked so hard to be the best possible husband he could be. He received a promotion at work and has been VERY busy now that he has a managerial position, and has said more than one time that he would really like a smartphone like I have, but that he absolutely hates the ones T-Mobile has to offer. It would be awesome for me to give him a late anniversary present that shows him how proud I am of him. :-) I am slowly but surely turning him into as big a gadget geek as I am…I hear that the couple that geeks together, stays together!!

  • jessica

My favorite gadget of the moment is undoubtedly my new pink 4G eeePC!! It is so small and light, and with a 2GB RAM upgrade it is running Ubuntu like a dream. Paired with an 8GB SDHC card in the card slot and a 250GB Western Digital Passport drive (also in pink, of course!!) it is the perfect mobile computing solution for me–a color-coordinated one!

It fits in all my handbags, and looks just so darn cute when I pull it out–people are surprised there is a fully functional computer under the little pink hood. You should hear the “awwwwwwww”s and “how cute”s when people see me take it out of my bag and set it up. However, then the tone changes to “oh my gosh!” and “awesome!” when they see what I can do with it. I have it all tricked out to be the perfect machine on the go. I just can’t tell my Macs about it, because they’ll get jealous. None of them are pink!

  • Joel Mclaughlin

jessica: I SOOOO want one! :D I’d use the Eee as my drag back and forth to work machine. I’d also need an external drive. I want a eee so bad! :D

  • http://www.justanothermobilemonday.com Brandon (aka netsyd)

I’d love to win any of them but ideally – I’d love to win the Touch so I can compare it with my iPhone. I mean … HTC has to have done something to try and compete with Apple … RIGHT?

  • http://www.justanothermobilemonday.com Brandon (aka netsyd)

My favorite gadget right now … is undoubtedly my iPhone. It’s my everything device since it does the web, email, phone, weather, and music as well or better than any other device around. Oh, and it just works. That and it makes me sexy… ok not really, But I can dream darn it!

(see the image coming in Flickr) – tonight

  • Heatwave316

My favorite gadget is my pink Zune4 complete with Zune Originals artwork on the back.

Its my savior at work. The work day can really drag, but when I’m jamming along, time goes so much faster. I make up my ‘Work Jamz’ playlist, and I’m off. Although, one small problem. I have to concentrate on not singing. My voice isn’t awful, but its more appropriate for the car and shower. I think I got busted singing the other day as 1 of my co-workers kind of stuck his head in the door and smilied at me. Other than my vocal slips, I just love, love, LOVE my little pink Zune!!!

  • http://mike.karrmedia.com mikekarr

I would simply like to win

  • http://mike.karrmedia.com mikekarr

My favorite gadget is the Blackberry Curve. Through work I have the opportunity to play with many devices, like the Sprint Mogul and Touch, and my old Blackberry 8700g, but I always come back to the curve. In the next couple of days I’ll be getting a Pearl, to see if maybe I can be swayed by an even sexier form factor.

  • http://www.geardiary.com Judie Lipsett

@khouryrt – email me with your mailing address and phone number. I went to Sam’s club today and picked you up a case of each flavor, long with my favorite – the Trident Splash in Strawberry Lime, and I’ll get those out to you as soon as I have your info. :-)

@ Judie Lipsett, seriously you are the most adorable person EVER! I’ve just sent you an email ;)

I’d love to win the O2 Atom Life. It has wi-fi and my school has just started offering wi-fi connectivity in the campus. (I mean it’s already 2008 and here in the Philippines, it is considered groundbreaking)

I’m starting my thesis (i’m an incoming 4th year college computer-science student) so you can really tell how strangled my schedule is. I just lost my phone and Atom Life will fill really big shoes. I believe it would really help me a lot with my studies. And I guess I’m going to win this if you just believe too? LOL.

  • http://www.justanothermobilemonday.com Brandon (aka netsyd)

On second thought … I’d be happy with either device!

    And here’s entry #3 –

    hi!

This is Priya. I own a 2y old O2 Neo(htc prophet), which has been lately not working the way it should. It hangs a lot; touchscreen sometimes doesnt work;bluetooth just doesnt works at all. It would be great if I win the HTC touch dual. I dont use wifi on my Neo. So, I decided to go for the touch dual instead of atom life.

The new touch interface of the touch dual looks great and user-friendly. The processor too is fast. I currently use my device for reading the CHM files(help files). My prophet, due to its poor ram and slow processor always crawls. The touch dual has double RAM and fast processor too.

The touch dual will be a great companion for me :)

  • kdswebdesignlabs

    here is my second post.

My favorite gadget ATM is canon digital IXUS 850IS, which is a 7.1MP camera, which I bought last summer. It takes great snaps.

The canon 850 is very easy to use. Its flash is quite powerful and has great battery life. It can also record VGA clips at 30 FPS. It has awesome macro mode too. I can also print the pictures directly to my home photo printer.

Being a girl, I love taking snaps of it of my barbies(even though I just turned 18). I love my barbies a lot. I have around 40 barbies with all of the cute accessories avaliable in the market.
My brother teases me a lot over them, but, I dont give a damn to him.

  • Dave P

Entry 1, which prize would I like? Let me be honest, the phones are delicious looking but, for me, they would be overkill. I’m happy enough with my low end model. Just don’t tell my teenagers I passed up the opportunity.

The gift certificates, OTOH, are always something I could use. You know the saying: “So many gadgets, so little available credit.”

  • Dave P

Entry 2, my favorite gadget? A year ago I would have said my Palm Tungsten T5 but it’s beginning to lose its luster (figuratively and literally).

The new object of my affections is my OQO 02. EVDO Rev A so I’m always connected. SSD so it can keep computing while being banged around. Input with a usable keyboard or a pen. Small and light enough to carry with me anywhere. I laugh at those silly so-called ultra light two pound behemoths. Who needs a FedEx envelope when you’ve got a pocket? Oh, and did I mention raw, unadulterated, shiny black, sex appeal?

  • macattack

    First Entry:

I’d love to win the Touch Dual. I’d love any of the great prizes, really, but if I had to pick one, it would be the Touch.

  • macattack

    Second Entry:

I’ve said this before at another site: I’m schizophrenic when it comes to my favorite device. Currently my SIM is in a Cingular 3125 (HTC StrTrk) because I really want a small device that is a really good phone, but I just moved my SIM from my AT&T 8525 (HTC Tytn) a few weeks ago. I used it as my daily driver for about four months because it’s loaded with functionality and it has a built-in QWERTY keyboard. Unfortunately , the added capability is saddled with brick-like size and weight. I can’t just stick it in my back pocket (with a good conscience, anyway) and go — Touch screens are fragile. The keyboard is large and useable, but I have to slide it out every time I want to use it, and it’s the primary reason for the device’s significant thickness. Additionally, there’s no good physical keyboard for dialing. Dialing “blind” on a virtual keyboard just doesn’t work.

So right now, I guess I like my 3125 best. I’ve got a great WM6 build from XDA Developers on it, and if I make a few sacrifices, I does what I need it to do. But I know that the day will come — probably relatively soon — when I decide that “I’ve just got to be able to do ________________!” And whatever goes in that blank, it will mean that more functionality than the 3125 can muster is a must. I’ll probably either switch SIMs back to my 8525, buy another device which I think will work, OR (hopefully) stick it in the svelte little Touch Dual I won from Gear Diary.

    Thanks for the opportunity!

  • melvynadam

Why I’d like to win the Touch Dual: ‘cos my K-Jam is getting very long in the tooth and there’s nothing quite so ugly as an ugly old Wizard.
    See here for proof:
    http://ill-use.com/wp-content/gallery/wizards-warriors/old-wizard.jpg

(even Spb Mobile Shell 2.0 wouldn’t solve the looks of that guy but it’s temporarily helping my device’s appearance)

  • melvynadam

My favourite gadget is my Plantronics P590 BT stereo headset. It’s far and away the best gadget I’ve ever bought. Put simply, it just works.

There is however a downside. Anyone who’s ever owned something this cool when it’s still an emerging technology will empathize totally with what I’m about to say. Why can’t I just listen to my music / podcast in peace without everyone coming over to ask about the damn things?! Sometimes I want to stick the optional airplane cable into the socket and dangle it inside my jacket just to avoid the questions. I’m a gadget evangelist but it can become too much.

Every great gadget has to come with some problem. In this case, the problem is the ungadgeted masses.

  • rcf2

great contest. thanks a lot for the chance to own one of this beauties. follow and read your comments have been a blessing.

  • rcf2

using many CE devices after years I really consider them unreplaceable. the instant on is perfect for a companion device and the long lasting batteries make my days leaving my tablet in the hotel room. actually using a TyTN II but looking seriously for an advantage since I think that the large screen will make easier to do some real work. as cell I prefer a very basic, small and cheap unit. the TyTN is almost perfect, if the screen was a bit larger…

I think I will space out my enteries a little, so here is my first one. I would REALLY like to win the HTC Touch Dual cuz I think it has to be slickest design out there on ANY phone right now. (If only it had wifi it would have been THE PERFECT PHONE for me)

  • bazzawill

I would love either phone I have had my Imate JasJam for over a year now so it must be time to upgrade, as for the gift vouchers I desperately need a larger sd card for my eeepc to unleash it’s full potential.

  • bazzawill

Which brings me to my second entry, which is of course my 2gb eeepc running eeexubuntu. I was so impressed that it ran compiz with full and speedy effects. I use it for uni and it’s so handy that I can take it anywhere just in case without having to compromise because it is so light. I was also impressed by my uni (unisa south australia) that they where willing to help me connect to there network when I am running linux, even though the tech that was helping me ran winxp on his eee.

Being a self-proclaim SuperFreak Gadget Addict, these two gadgets just screaming my name. Simply put, All your phones are belongs to us…err, I mean to me.

My favorite gadget is Logitech Harmony Universal Remote. At the end of the day, I just want to come home, fire up the TV, and the last thing I don’t want to do is hunt for every remote for all of my devices. The Harmony eliminate this problem, and everything just works. It’s almost as flawless as my Apple iPhone. Did I just say iPhone. Pfft.

I would love a new gadget to play with, even though I have a room full, I can never get enough, plus there is nothing like the excitement of getting a package from fed ex…

I would have to say my fav gadget is my iPhone, I was late to the game getting one, but I have to say it is pretty awesome, nothing else in my life gets so much use, I listen to hours of music a day, read books on it, and of course it just happens to be a phone! It amazes me how natural it feels, there was no learning curve, no real “figuring out” it just worked, today at the train I listened to the Killers, reading Cory Doctorow and was interrupted by a call from my Mom, and without missing a beat went back to it all after the call, now that is a great user experience.

Here is a pic I took of another one of my favorite gadgets, with my iPhone, with a couple other toys visible:

    2nd Entry:
My favorite gadget at the moment is absolutely my iPhone. I am a phone freak. I have an iPhone, an aircard, and a BlackBerry all active on my account. But the iPhone is number one. It comes everywhere with me, and it provides me with any information I want at any time about any thing. Downtown and want to know the score of the game? Or how about a nearby restaurant? Or how about where I am since I’m lost? Just fire up my iPhone and it is there. The keyboard is beyond amazing too, and it is WAY faster than a BlackBerry or similar keyboard. *sigh* I’m in love!

  • Katie

    1. If I won one of the phones I would give it to my techie husband. If I won the Amazon certificate I would use it to pre-order The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman, and buy a new cookie sheet. Hey, you asked.

    2. Currently my favorite gadget is our Nintendo DS Lite. I give it to my son so he can play Mario Kart while I catch a shower — it’s the only way to keep him quiet while his sister is sleeping!

    First post

I would REALLY love to win the 02 Atom Life Pocket PC… I would finally make the attempt to move my primary gadgetlife from my beloved Axim X51v to this really amazing little piece of electronic heaven.

This would make a superb opportunity to introduce my lovely yet technologically-reluctant wife to the techie life as I would bequeath her my suped-up Axim… if she promises to baby her and let me have occasional visitation rights!

Well after a longer than expected break here is the photo of my eee http://www.flickr.com/photos/22869784@N08/2339551735/

My first entry, why I want to win? Because these are absolutely great pda s!

  • knaak

And my second entry: my favourite mobile device is my good old htc wizard. Why, because I use to test (beta etc) software, which means I have all kinds of futuristic programs of all kinds of developers on it. I can simply play around with it without having to worry whether it will crash, I will lose important data or it would require a hard reset. The most relaxing mobile device I have!

I’m only supposed to talk about one of the things I’d like to win? :( I’d love to win one of the phones. My phone is a fairly lame nokia cheap slider I got with my (fairly cheap ;) ) plan. I wouldn’t mind it so much, but the white parts of the plastic have yellowed (I got this phone less than a year ago, realize… it already look five years old, what’s up with that?) so it really looks horrible–one of the reasons I’d like a new phone. Another reason is that the first gadgety piece of tech I ever owned was a pocket pc, a dell axim x5 I got back 4 or 5 years ago. I don’t use it much anymore, its batteries always run out and I can’t justify carrying around a somewhat large and pretty heavy thing all the time. It would simplify taking notes and such though, which could be achieved with one of these smartphones! I love the idea of permanent connectivity. Since I always have my phone with me, I’d always have my address book/data with me! And I have always wanted a phone with a pretty good camera (mine is a sad vga right now :P ) for the same reason–you always have it with you. The perfect camera is useless if you can’t have it for the perfect shot. And finally, me and a friend of mine have been drooling over the touch for quite a few months already. I’d love to be able to go “hehe, I got one!” at him ;) (and if I wn the other phone…well hey, I can probably make him drool with that too XD)

Now I still want to mention my interest in the amazon gift certificates–when I lived at home, my mom always told me I most certainly, definitely could not buy (wonderful, awesome, amazing) platform punk boots. This opinion has changed now that I don’t anymore and she won’t have to see them, and I’ve picked out a pair I want to buy. They cost 57$ on amazon (which incidentally is one of the cheapest places I’ve found them), and with a 25$ certificate that would make them an amazing 32$–pretty awesome cost for knee high, brand name punk boots!

  • http://www.graphical-illusion.com Elodie

Now, my favorite gadget… man, this is hard. I’m gadget obsessive–big surprise for a gear diary reader ;) But after thinking about ultraportables (mini laptop love!), the ds (that thing is so adorable it could do nothing but flash random colors and I think I’d still love it. but it does even more! XD), smartphones (see my previous entry for why I love those, hehe ;) ) and so many more, I realized my very favorite gadget would have to be a wacom tablet. I own an Intuos 2, if you don’t know it’s the previous generation of the professional, but cheaper tablet. Right now they’re out with the Intuos 3 (which is ridiculously sexy), but other than looks it mostly hasn’t changed: 1024 pressure levels, and amazing durability. You want an idea of this durability? Okay. My father bought this tablet (for 25$, we win) from his workplace when it shut down. This was approximately 6 years ago; it probably had a good 3 or more years of professional level use before, and I’ve used it regularly since. It has had books stacked on it, nailpolish spilled on it, it’s been used as a writing surface–and what’s it got to show for all this abuse? nothing more than a pale stain or two and a bit of a scratched surface (nothing which could impede use, though). It still works perfectly, even though I’ve had to buy an adapter to use it on my new computer (it’s a serial connector). Actually, it has almost survived the years so well I could be annoyed–the new ones look so cute, and yet I simply cannot justify buying a new one when mine works probably eveyr bit as well as the day it was bought!
Now though, I don’t just love it for how well made it is. It’s also the reason I got into art at all (and if you ask me to make a list of what I love outside of tech stuff, it’s fairly simple–books and art. that’s how important of an impact this tablet had on me). Back when my dad gave it to me, I found out about cartoon dolls (pixel art). Thanks to this tablet, I was able to get into this, and gradually to move to other digital art, and of course from there I had to branch out into traditional media as well. I almost went to art school for college, and I’m still considering a career in an artistic field after college–and it all comes down to this tablet.
(now of course, a dream come true would be the cintiq, the step up from the intuos–a tablet with a screen. I’d say that’s probably my most lusted-for gadget. but my favorite is my intuos 2.)

  • parelle

Now, I admit, it’s not tech-related, but I’ve been looking to indulge and get myself this set of Palestrina Masses. However, should I be so lucky as to get one of the phones, I’ve wanted to move off my lazy-daisy cell plan (and my archaic phone) for something with a bit more umph… particularly when I’m going to start commuting to work once I’m done grad school.

  • parelle

Oh goodness, favorite tech item! It’s always a toss up between my laptop and my Axim, but I’ll have to go with the Axim: even though it’s starting to show its age, it’s a constant companion. I’ve taken to only using purses large enough for it and its accompanying accessories. It’s a combination of portable library, entertainment center, and iPod all in one (I don’t own a separate music player), never mind its ability to take notes as well. While I’m certain I could live with a desktop, it’s hard to see me living without a PDA, as I’ve become so familiar with it.

  • uzziah0

I am in on this contest, and wish I had more time to be creative (or maybe I wish I was just more creative!).
Hmmmm, maybe I’ll think of something at lunch time?!?!?

  • http://www.startblue.net LJKelley

I would love either phone :)

  • uzziah0

My favorite gadget is my Dell Axim x51v.
It is a great device, with a GPS for getting around, I even got some maps for lunar trips, so I don’t get lost in space.
It also has a presentation cable for displaying with a projector onto the dark side of the moon.
With SD & CF slots I can watch detailed briefings befoe I get lost, and even when I’m lost with such good battery time (and no hard reset when I switch the spare battery).
With WM5, it runs many other apps that make my 9 to 5 a little easier, listening to podcasts off line works great, as well as a bunch of music on the dual memory cards.
With built in WiFi I can even check out the latest Gear Diary tech updates while I’m doing the safety dance.

Both phones look great, but I do like keyboards so my first choice would have to be the HTC Dual Touch. Then again a phone with a flash Wow :!:

  • Mike

    Entry #2
As for my favorite gadget it would have to be my R2Hv. I use it as my primary PC to keep track of my finances, calendar, and of course keep up with Gear Diary and my other feeds. I also use it to maintain our fire departments web site, manage docs, and use the GPS along with Streets & Trips to make maps. Another use I have found is that tethered to my phone I can track storm systems while in the rigs. I could keep going but you get the idea :)

  • Mike

For my photo I thought I would take my feed reading to new heights.

    First reply

I would love either phone, simply for the touch. My Mogul is getting old, and I would love to have a new toy to play with and a reason to change carriers.

I’d love to get a gift certificate. I am saving up for a small smart phone. The O2 and HTC are too big.

My favorite gadget is my Tapwave Zodiac2. It fulfills most of my gadget needs, including syncing to Quicken.

  • crloga1

    Second post,

My favorite gadget right now is my Mogul. with the ROM update that came out a week ago, it is like a brand new toy. There are so many uses for this phone, finances, calendar, tasks, contacts, and RSS feeds (especially GearDiary). The GPS and Rev A are icing on the cake right now.

  • gasuz07

    Entry 1: I would love to win…..ANYTHING! I love gadgets…so a new phone would be wonderful…

but a gift certificate would be nice too! I am sure I could use it to get books for my Amazon Kindle!

  • gasuz07

    Entry 2: favorite gadget….

hmmm that is hard. I love my AT&T Tilt, my Amazon Kindle, my ipod touch, my Zune 30, my Zune 80, my dell axim x51v…..

eee nee mee nee my nee mo…..

Amazon Kindle…..my favorite….. cause I love to read… and yes it could be prettier….but I must admit…I forget about the device and READ! I’ve read 2-3 books a week since I got it at Christmas (well a little before that ;) )…

Entry #1: I’m still attending High School and I realized I needed help getting organized better, and decided to search the net for a cheap PPC and stumbled on to this opportunity to win a free PPC! So what better price than free? Winning the PPC would most definitely help me keep track of things, just as I’m expected to at school…

    Hey ppl!!

i just say that since I lost my HTC TyTN, I’m using my old cell phone a T28 World Ericsson. Can you remember this phone?? Jajajaja I bought it on 1995. So…. I’m using this cell phone since the robbery that would be December the 7th,2007. Can you imagine how crazy and insane I’m getting without the possibility to synchronize my contacts, mails, notes and tasks form outlook? Uuuiiuiuiuiuiuiuiuiuiuiuuu but probably the worst thing is not have the possibility to connect to the internet on the road :S.

An angel told me this post will help me recover form my insanity and an O2 Atom will arrive.

    Cheers my friends.

    Entry # 2

    Hey ppl!!

Me again, the T28W ericsson guy jajajaja
Also know as the crazy Carlos

Well in the middle of madness I can’t barely thing straight. But as long as I remember my favorite gadget is my Plantronics Voyager 510 bluetooth headset. Why?? Just because it is the only who gives me the freedom that I need. I can connect it to my office laptop an HP DV6220 to receive calls from my customers and partners, I can also connect it to my own Tablet PC a TX2000z to call to my family and my friends all around the world through Skype and VoipStunt. And of course if my cell phone will accept bluetooth connection I can also use it with it. Hope the angel from the post # 1 keep his word.

    Cheers my friends.

Here’s my first entry. I’d like to win one of the smart phones, preferably the HTC Touch. But I wouldn’t mind an Amazon gift Certificate if I don’t win one of the smart phones. That would also be extremely useful.

    #2 entry:
Here’s my 2nd entry. My favorite gadget so happens to be the Zune 80 that I won from GearDiary in a previous contest. I use it nearly everyday. Before owning the Zune, I never listened to a podcast, but now I listen 5-6 podcasts every week during work. I even watch videos on the Zune which I either record using my Vista Media Center or I had converted from a DVD. I often watch movies or TV shows on the Zune as I walk to work thru Times Square, keeping one eye out from walking into unexpecting tourists that are in my path.

I took a a number of photos of me and my Zune. I even created a custom GearDiary wallpaper for the Zune as you will see in the photos. In a few of the photos I am standing in front of the 5th Avenue “Cube” Apple Store with my Zune because I thought it would be funny. I think the Zune80 is much better then its direct Apple competitor, the 80GB iPod Classic.

  • terrydy

This givaway is exceptional good. Extremely nice PocketPCs and I been wanting one for a very long time. I really want to win the O2 Atom Life since it has sparkling features and an attractive design.
    This is my first entry.

  • terrydy

My favourite gadget is always my iPod Touch and my good ol’ HTC TyTN. The touchscreen on my iPod is just elegant. The screen is resistable to most of the scratching done in side my pocket with my keys. And yet, the screen is still very responsive. My other favourite gadget is my old HTC TyTN I got back in 2006. It is still a very good phone. It is an outstanding device especially for text messenging and video-calling. The keyboard size is great and the video-call camera is okay. Although it is an old device, it still can get the job done most of the times. I have my to do lists on my HTC TyTN and I take these two gadgets with me to school every single day.
    This is my second entry.

    1st post:

I’m eyeing the HTC Touch Dual…

I broke my fiance’s Dopod M700/ HTC Love so I’ll be buying the HTC Touch Cruise as a replacement. I already have the HTC Touch so the Dual is all we need to complete our Touchy family.

    2nd post:

My favourite gadget at the moment is my new i-mate Ultimate 8502. I recently picked it up in Singapore and I have been absolutely amazed at how great this is- 3.5G, QWERTY board, GPS, scroll wheel. You can leave me anywhere and I can happily entertain myself browsing the web/ checking email/ instant messaging … and I can also easily find my way home. Plus my fiance and I have ceased fighting about directions- we don’t want to be arguing our way into our marriage.

I’m just waiting for Gear Diary to start giving away some i-mates so I can complete my Ultimate family

I would love to win one of the phones — My Blackberry has bounced off the pavement a few too many times, and the all-important a-key now works about one third of the time (which unfortunately started 8 days past the end of the warranty date0. Trust me — h ving keybo rd with non working -key c n be re l p in in the ss.

  • http://www.umich.edu/~dey datahoss

My current favorite gadget is the OLPC which I bought to help the cause, but which I’ve found to be a really cool, funky machine. It arrived literally the same day my ASUS eee showed up at the door, and while I use that machine with a Windows install for travel and office work, the OLPC has a special place in my heart. The battery lasts forever, and while the built-in Sugar apps weren’t built for folks like me, with the addition of Thundebird it is a nice machine to toss in the back of the Jeep and not worry about until you need to pull in for a java and wifi fix. Someday I may get around to doing a full Linux install, but for now it is a great kick-around machine for net-based work.

I can really use one of the phones – I’m in the cellular dark ages with my antiquated Moto RAZR.

    Second entry:

No question, my favorite gadget is my trusty iPod 5G 30GB – it keeps me sane. It’s also a bit of a money pit. I couldn’t stand the packed in headphones so I upgraded. Then I decided that I needed an escape from the guy in my carpool who likes to sing along with the radio so I bought in ear monitors. Also great for the long haul flights. Then I needed a pair of good headphones for the house but the iPod needs a little help driving 250 Ohm so I bought an amp. I’ve sunk more than 2X the original price of the iPod on the headphones.

  • http://timcallow.smugmug.com fromamerica

I would love to win either of these gadgets, or the gift cerst as well. I love new techie toys, and try to turn them around and try something new when I can, or when money permits.

  • http://timcallow.smugmug.com fromamerica

Post #2 – my favorite gadget right now is my Fujitsu 4220, on lean from Fujitsu. First tablet I have had. The combination of Windows 2007 with OneNote 2007 and the tablet pen based technology has been a great boon to me in my work. I have gone completely paperless, and ON is my notebook for eveything from notes, to files, to memos, to internet pages. I use it for my real work (consulting), my play work (photography), and my spare time stuff.

Wow, I just realised the deadline is 1 hour away. So much for spacing out my entries!

Anyway my favourite gadget by a little margin is my Panasonic DMC-FZ30 digital camera. Since I am running out of time, I will keep it short and just say that its my favourite gadget because it was the camera that really started me on seriously on my no. 1 hobby of photography and introduced me to techniques such as spot metering and long manual exposures (and some more interesting stuff which will be illustrated in my third post)
