As rumored yesterday, Sprint and HTC released a new ROM for the Mogul earlier today. Although the HTC site has not been updated (come on, what are you waiting for?), the direct download link is readily available at a number of sites across the web.
The new ROM, which is version 3.35.651.2 features EVDO Rev A and GPS capabilities, two features which puts the Mogul ahead of many other Windows Mobile devices. Of course, it looks like they have inexplicably left out Sprint TV, but who really needs to pay extra money to watch a 2 inch screen, anyway?
I have not had a chance to load it yet, but our fearless reader, XDALaw tells me that the GPS functions work great!
You can download it here, or from the WM Experts mirror site.
If you want more information before you download, check out the press release at the Sprint website.

Thanks, JDTagish. I had updated the link at JAMM and forgot to do so over here as well.
And if you own a Mogul, I highly recommend this one. EVDO-RevA is blazing…the GPS works perfectly. I have not tested the new BT upgrades yet, so if anyone else has, let us know what you think.

Doug – here’s a good link to a mobile speed test that can be used via the phone browser to check out download speeds (I think it does uploads too).

Well, the new ROM killed my Mogul within 3 days of installation. I have no idea what program or software didn’t like the new ROM, but the camera stopped working, the audio out didn’t work, although the BT was much stronger! Then, IE quit working and ActiveSync decided that it wouldn’t recognize my Mogul anymore either. (Although Vista’s Mobile Device Center did – go figure!)
I had updated the ROM, and then used Sprite backup to restore my data across the new ROM. I think that may have been the issue – Sprite has been great in the past, but it has not worked well for me on restores at all on the Mogul with WM6. I don’t know which one (the Mogul or WM6 is the issue, but I have switched to SPB Backup, since that actually does work to restore.)
So, now it was hard reset time…UGH! I used SPB Backup to restore PIM data only after the hard reset, and that worked. Then, I was able to restore most of my financial data, and with only an hour of tweaking get my 13 different account to the correct balances. Those are the biggies for me – too much data to re-enter and keep track of.
Then, I reinstalled all of my usual programs: iLauncher, Pocket Breeze, Atstraware games, Tweaks2k, MemMaid, Resco Explorer, Core Player, uBook and a few others. Getting iLauncher & PB tweaked and icons in place took another couple of hours, but it’s finally done.
The audio out is a bit of a mystery to me. The adapters I have been using since I got the Mogul, (http://www.semsons.com/2miusband3st.html) will not work with the new ROM. If I use the @%$#%@$ “y” cable with a 2.5 to 3.5mm adapter to speakers, does seem to work. I have no idea why the other ones just doesn’t work anymore. (They worked fine before the update, however.) Ultimately, not a deal breaker, but annoying for occasional listening in my car.
BT is much better now, which is a relief. Rev A is quite speedy, but I haven’t played with the GPS, since they want a fee for that, and I don’t feel like paying them any more for it, and I have the Navigon 5100 for GPS anyway.
All in all, a good upgrade, but it seems to really want a “clean” installation to work correctly.
