My Favorite Game in the World…

Posted on 12 March 2008 by

…feh, I don’t really have just one. But I must agree with Mike Cane that there are a few I would dearly love to see come to the Apple iPhone and touch.

He mentions a desire to see Astraware‘s Text Twist, and I have to agree; if that were available in the Apple store I would head straight over to pay and download, because it is one of my faves. But I have another request, one that would totally take advantage of the iPhone’s fabulous screen, or the tough impossible to scratch surface of the touch. The game?

Shape Shifter…oh yes.

I have wasted much time tapping my stylus against my Pocket PC’s screen while racing the clock; I would love the opportunity to play this with my finger tip on the iPhone or touch’s larger and better screen.

Mike says any game for the Apple devices shouldn’t restrict games to touch.  Use that accelerometer,” he says, “and, if possible, the proximity sensor too.”

Yes please!

He also says, “Just don’t make it so incredibly complex or dense that game eejits like me will get frustrated and consider our money wasted!”

He said it, not me! ;-)

What games would you like to see on the iPhone or touch? Think about it and then read Mike’s post:-)

I started Gear Diary on September 30, 2006, and my goal was that this not be an easily labeled site. We all have gear that we use daily – some of it electronic and some of it organic. I think it is fascinating to explore the equipment that makes our lives easier, more entertaining, more productive, and more manageable. My hope is that Gear Diary visitors will find this site to be a comfortable and friendly place to discuss interesting topics – and not only those that are tech related, as well as a location to discover various types of gear – whatever that term may end up implying – that they never knew existed. My specialty is in-depth reviews written in a layman’s terms, because everyone can understand technology, sometimes it just takes a little translating. +Judie Stanford

TextTwist is available for the iPhone, but not by Astraware.
To get TextTwist on your iPhone:
    1. Add the Jiggy Main Repository source.
    2. Install version .25 of Jiggy and Jiggy Runtime or higher.
    3. Download the TextTwist zip file HERE.
    4. Unzip the TextTwist file and save it to your computer.
    5. Drag the TextTwist.app file from your computer to your iPhone via SSH into the root/Applications folder.
    6. Change the permissions of the TextTwist.app folder to 0755. To do this, just select all the files in the TextTwist.app folder, right click, select properties and change the Octal to 0755. You will also need to open the two folders, letters and messages, inside of the TextTwist.app and do that same thing.
    7. Restart your iPhone

Works on 1.1.3 jailbroken phone. Haven’t tried it on 1.1.4 yet

Bet by June, you won’t need to be jailbroken, that it will be built under the SDK
