According to Andy Walker, Apple is bringing the iPhone to Canada under the banner of Rogers Wireless next September. We all know how Canadian mobile Internet plans are horrible, but apparently the deal with the iPhone will bring plans comparable to those in the US.
This could mean “a true shift” (no pun intended to HTC) in the Canadian mobility market.

Ooooh - more rumors and speculation! We’ll see if this one bears out for our neighbors to the north.

Yeah, one more rumor to the iPhone in Canada myth.
I have tried to find more sources but nothing. So this is only from Andy Walker’s mouth.

Telus (our other big wireless carrier) is switching to GSM sometime in the near future, I assume before the 2010 Olympics, so they may also be the carrier of choice for Apple.
At any rate, this picture is not 100% accurate.

For now, at least.

There is one thing that makes me think this is just another rumor.
We now know that an unlimited Internet data plan is not a must to get the iPhone. Ireland just got the iPhone through O2 and they are not offering an unlimited plan nor visual voice mail in Ireland. What’s more, T-Mobile is now offering the iPhone in Austria too and no unlimited data plans there too. So the information Andy’s got is just air. Rogers has no incentive to change anything in the current data plans and Apple is not requiring unlimited plans for it’s device.
The iPhone might be coming to Canada some time after the launch of the 3G iPhone but it will remain a very expensive proposition. Just like Ireland and Austria we will get the shaft too.
