I bought my Alfa on eBay last year, and other than the fact that it took a while to get it shipped to me, everything was basically as advertised and promised.

I like how the internet has opened up the whole country for car shopping, when before you really had no choice but to keep things more regional.

Never…..ever….buy a car site unseen. I have also had the same experience with internet selling and so I just say forget it. Cars cost too danged much to put up with this crap.

Here’s my trick that always works for car shopping:

Completely figure out WHAT you want so when you stop into the dealership you are ready to make a decision.

When you go into the dealership you tell them one thing — you’re on the way to pick up your child, sick relative from the doctor, etc in 30 minutes — so you cannot stay longer than 30 minutes.

This gives them a deadline by which to cut a deal with you.

Most of the time the sales guys hurry things along quite a bit. And this gives you a timeframe to get the deal done. If they can’t meet your price you’re out in 30 minutes (not 2 hours).

This works for me every time.

Nice article — I would love to see if you could follow-up on what Carfax does. I’ve heard of them but never have used them. Is this just for used card? What level of details do they provide?

Some great tips there Chris. I used the internet (eBay specifically) to sell my old car, and buy my new one in September last year, and by being careful I had great outcomes on both.
