I have to head back to my life on Sunday, but my sisters are coming in turn to help for the next few weeks. After that, we'll have to see how things progress. I appreciate the good wishes.

Thanks Judie – she is home now, but recovery will be a long road. And your packing snafu sounds just like something I would do when rattled. ;-)

@JD – I hope your mom will be okay and out of the hospital ASAP!

And your packing snafu sounds just like something I would do when rattled. <img

Yeah, the Eee PC is definitely on my wish list right now. I've been waiting for the 9" to release and with the recent news of a touchscreen and possible GPS receiver built into it, I AM SOLD! (Okay I was already going to get one, but this makes me want one ASAP)
I have plans of setting up a "docking station" in my car to hold the Eee; then loading up a full screen media player connected to a portable hard drive, and with the touchscreen; it'll be my own mp3 jukebox I can actually operate while driving.. whoo man am I stoked!
Running WMWifiRouter on my smartphone means full scale Internet anywhere.. gahh!!!

@ > jessica

Yeah, the Eee PC is definitely on my wish list right now. Not knowing how long I was going to be gone, I had to think about stuff to use in a hospital, as well as a hotel room, for an indefinite period of time.
I grabbed my Navigon 5100 GPS, since I don't know my way around GA very well, my MacBook, my iPod Touch & my Jabra 8010 BT headset. I also brought my Airport Express, which I am currently using to get a wifi signal.
I also have my selection of iGo charging accessories & tips so I can charge up to 4 devices at a time, but find it unwieldy, especially in a confined environment. But, I keep it packed up and ready to go, for emergency purposes, and was able to just drop it in to my bag.
I also usually have a pouch with a simple USB hub and wall charger and I have retractable charging cables for pretty much every device I have. Along with the Proporta USB Mobile device charger, that met all my charging needs at the hospital and let me keep other family members devices charged as well. This set up is what usually "lives" with me in my daily bag, so it was no biggie to drop that into the suitcase as well.
I did manage to forget PJ's and other shoes - I guess that shows you the way a gadget person thinks in a crisis - multiple ways to charge everything, but no jammies.

I’m actually out of town right now…I got word that my mom was seriously ill, and I had to catch a plane and get to her in Georgia with about 5 hours notice. I have a 2 gig drive that is a watch that I got off think geek. It's handy. Also if you use a computer at a hotel lobby make sure to use an on screen keyboard to enter any passwords (just think of how much info some scummy character could get from a hotel lobby with a key logger?)

I am surprised more people don’t take a simple flash drive loaded with portable apps and your favorites. This is where my new eeePC will be the PERFECT gadget. It's already replaced a full-size notebook in my bag for writing, meetings, and I use it constantly at home for just surfing, chatting, uploading pics, etc. It is so small and light that I can just take one less paperback book with me on the trip and I will never notice the difference. It will also be a lot less of a hassle to pull out and send through xray at the airport!
My travel gadget arsenal would be:
eeePC + charger
Western Digital 250GB passport drive (if I thought I needed it, it's so small that carrying it is no biggie)+ usb cord (that will also charge my PDA phone and work with the camera!)
iPod nano with noise-reduction earbuds + usb cord
PDA phone
Canon SD750 Digital Elph camera + battery charger
All this gear is small enough to fit in my purse! How could I leave it at home? :-)

I’m all about not really wanting to tote the laptop on vacation, but I know me, and there will be times when I want to use a real computer–boredom in the middle of the night when I can’t sleep, on the plane to catch up a bit on my writing, watching video on a bigger screen, uploading my photos….and I don’t really like using public computers for most things if I can avoid it.

This is where my new eeePC will be the PERFECT gadget. Phones (includes GPS/Internet)
Camera
Spare camera batteries
Flash Media (for the phone and camera)
Laptop (for the hotel)
Mouse (just faster than a trackpad)
Mp3/PMP (for the plane)
Earphones (for the above)
Car chargers (we're renting a car)
Wall chargers
Something we plan on using quite a bit is the built-in GPS on one of our phones. If we didn't have that function, I'd probably buy a separate GPS device.

My girlfriend and I are going on a week long vacation to San Francisco this Saturday and we have a list of ‘gadgets’ we’ll be bringing.

Phones (includes GPS/Internet)<br
