How many times have you been stuck in an airport searching for an electrical outlet. There’s always that one outlet — located way across the hall right next to the busy bathroom exit. Or how about those days you work from Starbucks where the lone outlet is occupied by some guy with a sleeping bag and pillow (a clear sign he’s not going anywhere soon). Well rejoice road warrior - because Sprint will soon introduce the electrical equivalent of WIFI. Instead of transmitting a high speed Internet signal, Sprint will transmit electricity - wirelessly. The service has been in closed beta test since early November. Pricing and availability after the break

Tentatively scheduled to ship by late fall 2008, the service will cost $24.95 per month with a 2 year contract.

Subscribers receive a wireless connection adapter which about the size of a computer mouse. The adapter runs off rechargeable batteries and receives an electrical signal from a cellular tower up to 15 miles away.

Existing Sprint customers do not have to extend their contract by adding this service.
Sprint will also offer a fixed service component, the WIJ-1200, which restaurants, grocery stores, airports, laundromats and coffee shops will be able to purchase for an expected price of $10,000 to $20,000 and monthly $99.
